What a cool place. I was there in 95, 96, and 98. Most of it was a blurr, but i'll try to answer the questions.
Q-Places to eat
A-There are these little taco stands on the street, great food to soak up the fun stuff. Other than that, each bottle of Dos Equis comes with a lime, does that count?
Q-Did you feel safe?
A-Yep, just stay less drunk than everyone else plus have 200 buddies on shore helps too.
Q-Things to do
A-A lot of fishing, sitting on beach, more fishing, label camcorder as 'boob cam' - it works quite well, no explanation necessary.
Sorry i can't tell ya much at all, it's been a long time, but thats a great place, or at least it was.
Have Fun!!!

I've only been once, a couple of years ago, so I'll be minimally helpful with specifics.......
Good sport fishing and a healthy night life. Many good restaurants, known for fresh seafood of course. We stayed at Dreams Los Cabos and it was your standard all-inclusive resort. Decent but not great food, a couple of pools, spa, a bar around every corner, small gym, nice beach, etc.....
Bring a large wheelbarrow full of money though, Cabo is mucho expensive. Always felt safe.
I'd go back.

If you like the nightlife party scene with drunk people everywhere then this is the place for you. Spring break year round.
As for the wife and I, we prefer some of the smaller fishing resorts down there. Quiet, great fishing and lots of other great stuff.
Our favorite:

I have flown in Cabo airport and been picked up by the hotel at the airport and I have flown in a private plane to their airstrip.

Last August my wife and I went to Cabo and stayed at the Pacifica Bonita Holistic Resort and Spa. I admit the name sounds a little odd, but its one of the few places I've ever been where I wouldn't mind going back. I was skeptical until I started reading reviews on TripAdvisor. Its adults only and fairly small. Its a long way from town, so if you're looking for an active vacation with lots of going out, etc., its probably not the place for you. If you want a trip where you can hang out on the beach, have good food and good drinks, spend some time at the (really nice) spa and watch the sun go down, I don't know of a better spot. My only complaint is that they charge you to use the workout facilities each day. Its not much (I think like $8), but its enough to be annoying and I'd rather pay a little bit more in the room rate.
Good luck,
Rick

My husband had a business conference there a few months ago and I tagged along. We stayed here:
http://www.meliacaboreal.com/
, which was nice. I'm not a big Mexico resort fan, but found Cabo to be just lovely. The beaches are great, and there are nice restaurants everywhere. I had a spa day (I can't remember the name of the spa) and one day we did a zip line canopy tour:
http://www.cabosanlucastours.net/Wild-Canyon-Ekopark.htm
. The zip lines scared me half to death, but I think lots of people had fun. It was a very safe and well maintained facility. If you like clubs, there is a famous one called Cabo Wabo, which used to be owned by Sammy Hagar.

I've stayed over in that area for a guys fishing trip. Definitely like the small village vibe for a fishing trip but maybe something less remote for this trip.

I love Cabo. It is a great place to sneak away for a long weekend.
If your up for a different type of place to stay check out Desire. It is a clothing optional resort. Things can and will get a little carried away at times so if you are offended easily this is NOT the place for you.
You HAVE to eat at The Office. Lobster taco's there are worth the trip alone.
Safety was never an issue.

Places to stay
There is a huge range of prices. What are you looking for?
Places to eat.
Changes each year. The Trailer Park for lobster. Like others have said, The Office on the beach is fun. Cabo Wabo in good and fun to check out. El Shrimp Bucket, Giggling Marlin Via Serina (sp).
Did you feel safe?
Totally.
Things to do
Fishing is the best you will find. Rent an ATV, Snorkel, hit lovers beach for sure, rent a scooter and check out the older parts of town. Golf. What are you looking for?
Check out Travelzo.com for some great last min deals. The wife and I got 4 days all included with air for $399 each from SFO last year at the Tesoro in the harbor.

We didn't have one. Resorts will offer a shuttle to/from the airport and taxies are plentiful and relatively cheap.

Check out hotels at lands end. That is the beach over the hill from the harbor near Pedragal. Great hotels with an awesome view. The beach is not safe for swimming because of the current but you feel like you are on a isolated beach but just a mile from downtown.
You can have all the beach time you want without the bars, jet skis, people trying to sell you t-shirts, jewelry and mota. You should hit el squid row after 10 for at least a little of the spring break fun. Cabo Wabo has some great live music most nights.
