Obama Documents Release Can't Post

Apparently there's documents from various points in Obama's public life that are being withheld, raising the old "what's in there?" spectre. Many of these papers have would offer insight to Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers, another radical he only describes as the It's always irksome, and leaves too much to speculation...of course that in itself may show they are more afraid of what's there than the speculation of what might be. There is this continued connection in the Obama campaign:

"
However, it must be pointed out that a notorious ally of Bill Ayers for many years, Mike Klonsky, is an open member of the Obama campaign. Klonsky runs a blog on the official Obama website here where he claims to be a "professor of education" (the website of the Small Schools Workshop that he directs says only that he teaches some graduate courses, though it appears he was a visiting professor for one year at Nova Southeastern University in Florida in 2006-07) and says he blogs for Obama on "education politics and teaching for social justice."
Who is Mike Klonsky? Well, on one level, he might just appear to be a protege of Bill Ayers in the education world. He received, as I detail below, a $175,000 grant from the Ayers/Obama-led Annenberg Challenge to run the Small Schools Workshop that he and Ayers started in Chicago to push their school reform agenda.
But that is only half the story. Klonsky was one of the most destructive hardline maoists in the SDS in the late 60's who emerged from SDS to form a pro-Chinese sect called the October League that later became the Beijing-recognized Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist). As chairman of the party, Klonsky travelled to Beijing itself in 1977 and, literally, toasted the Chinese stalinist leadership who, in turn, "hailed the formation of the CP(ML) as 'reflecting the aspirations of the proletariat and working people,' effectively recognizing the group as the all-but-official US Maoist party." (Elbaum, Revolution in the Air, 228).
I know of no indications that Klonsky has ever expressed any regrets about that activity. Perhaps like his SDS comrade, Ayers, he, too, thinks he did not do enough back then. In my view they did more than enough.
An excellent profile of that maoist milieu is available in a book called Revolution in the Air by Max Elbaum, a first hand participant whose sympathy for the maoism of the period does not get in the way of an excellent account of these idiot savants of the left.
How is it possible that someone of Klonsky's ilk would now be playing a visible role in the Obama campaign itself on such an important issue as education policy - apparently with free reign to push his authoritarian "social justice" agenda?

The Endless Secrecy Around Barack Obama
Just to review, the public cannot get access to paperwork related grants distributed by then-state-legislator Obama (records from 1997 to 2000 aren't available); his state legislative office records (which he says may have been thrown out); he refuses to release a specific list of law clients, instead giving a list of all of his firm's clients, numbering several hundred each year; he won't release his application to the state bar (where critics wonder if he lied in responding to questions about parking tickets and past drug use); he’s never released any legal or billing records to verify that he only did a few hours of work for a nonprofit tied to convicted donor Rezko; and he's never released any medical records, just a one-page letter from his doctor.

Now the University of Illinois at Chicago is denying Stanley Kurtz access to documents relating to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a small foundation, founded and inspired by Bill Ayers, for which Obama served as board chairman.
What the hell? Really, what possible reason is there to seal documents like this, beyond saving Obama some embarrassment? And is any fool out there still claiming that they're voting for Obama because the Bush Administration has been too secretive?

There's this, also (HT Scott Johnson):

Stanley Kurtz has been digging into Barack Obama's network of relationships in Chicago. Among his articles on the subject is "Inside Obama's ACORN," and the recent Standard article "Barack Obama's lost years." Among the most intriguing relationships Kurtz has sought to explore is the one between Obama and Bill Ayers, the unrepentant terrorist. Obama has consistently sought to downplay his relationship with Ayers, describing him, for example, as "a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who's a professor of English in Chicago."

Following up on his Standard article, Kurtz sought to review the files of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, where Obama served as chairman of the board and worked with Ayers. The records of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge are on deposit with the Richard J. Daley Library of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Kurtz contacted the library, was provided an index of the Anneberg Challenge documemnts collection and was advised by the library that it would would accommodate his review of the documents.

Then something happened. Just before Kurtz boarded his flight to Chicago to review the documents, top library officials mysteriously intervened to bar access. Kurtz tells the story in "Chicago Annenberg Challenge shutdown?" noting that the explanations offered by library officials for the last-minute decision to block access to the documents were contradictory and shifting. Today he adds an alarming update here, indicating that the documents may be returned to their donor.

Steve Diamond has more here, Tom Maguire has more here and here, and the AP dips its toe into the water here. The Obama campaign's fact check on Obama's relationship with Ayers suggests that whoever is behind the coverup at the Richard J. Daley Library is not alone.

Somebody who comes from a radical past, as Obama has, isn't somebody who'll easily be elected to the presidency. Expect more stuff like the above to come out in the next several weeks. Back in the bad old days, when it was just the three major networks and the NYT, LAT and Washington Post (as national papers), we may never have been able to learn any of this, given the somewhat sycophantic coverage Obama initially enjoyed from the media.

But Obama could no more disown Ayers than . . . no, wait . . . That's not the Ayers that Obama knew . . . no wait . . .

Seriously, how is it that in the middle of August, 2008, there are still documents that haven't been released, that the press has not dug up?

What makes me really wonder is what happened to the infamous Clinton Machine? First they didn't go with the Obama isn't really an American attack, and now we find out they didn't dig this out either?

I have to go back and talk with Lazy Ben about that Pope thing. I am getting really confused.

That pretty much wrecks Hillary's rep as a competent manager. But that's history.

What the heck is the press doing? I swear, more and more they seem to view themselves as mere conduits for channeling propaganda rather than independent reporters. It apparently has not occured to them that they should have found these documents on their own a long time ago.

Most of them don't want to find this sort of information, yet the New York Times was willing to go to press with an assertion, based on not even the slightest hint of evidence, that McCain had had an affair with a female lobbyist. Just more proof of how in the tank much of the MSM is when it comes to reporting on either Obama of Hillary, if the items happen to be negative.

At least the press found his brother, George Hussein Onyango Obama. He lives on a dollar a month. Wouldn't you think HBO could pitch in and crank it up to Two dollars a month? Christ, go all in for Three!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/...-found-in-Kenya.html

"He [GHOO] has only met his famous older brother twice - once when he was just five and the last time in 2006 when Senator Obama was on a tour of East Africa and visited Nairobi.

The Illinois senator mentions his brother in his autobiography, describing him in just one passing paragraph as a "beautiful boy with a rounded head"."

C'mon--throw him a few bucks.

Maybe when Cindy McCain gives up a piece of Hensley to her half-sisters. You should be careful when you throw rocks.

Interesting, no liberals responding here. I'd imagine the left is as frightened, of something ugly coming out on Obama, as the right is giddy. I'm just hoping that whatever can come out, does. It really gets old seeing stories like those on Hillary's background that are never complete, and have people speculating about what might be being covered up. I tend to think that Obama has some ugly skeletons in the closet, but humans love a conspiracy, so I'm slow to accept wild posits made by some.

Yet, you are so deeply concerned over the fact that McCain may have ownership in four or more houses.

Intriguing.
