Surround sound for new TV???
Can't Post
So I picked up a new LCD flat screen. 47 inches and I love it.
Everybody tells me that I need a good sound system to really get the most from movies and such.
Any suggestions for a "system" that is easy to hook up and in the $300 range??? Any tips or suggestions would be welcomed.

in the $300 range it will be quite hard to find 'good', to get 'good' add a zero (and stay away from bose)... for $300 I don't think there are that many differences among the various offerings, I heard good things about this set of speakers (you will need to buy a receiver too) but try to demo it if you can

I haven't listened to the latest units, but a friend of mine had an older Sony system and it worked pretty well. That being said, you will want to start saving to get a 'true' home theatre system.

in the 300 price range should stick to stereo sound instead of surround. If you want decent surround wait a few months so u can up the budget a bit.

3 years ago I got a Sony Master series 5 to 1 system. The sound difference when watching movies was incredible. At that time it was around 850 bucks. Not the cheapest system, nor the most expensive. Believe me, you wont be happy with the lower end stuff. The hi end stuff is only for the audiophiles. Unfortunately listening to them in the store before you purchase it is almost useless.

In that price range Onkyo seems to usually have the best offerings,
like this one
. But I agree, you might be better off in the long run upping the budget just a bit. You might want to search around
here
a bit regarding the home theater in a box systems. Some reviews are older, but the info is good.

Honestly, save up just a bit more and you can get a bonifide surround system. Amazon.com has some good deals on an Onkyo TX-SR606 for about $350, then get a set of Polk Audio RM 6750. At about $600 total cost, you will get a system that is equal or better to many in the $2-3,000 range.
