Taliban storm NATO base in Afghanistan Can't Post

This is the type of base my daughter will be deployed to. We should have finished this war before we ever thought of going into Iraq.

"In unusually large and well-coordinated attacks in eastern Afghanistan, Taliban insurgents killed 10 French paratroopers in a mountain road ambush and at least six suicide bombers attempted to storm a NATO alliance base, NATO and Afghan officials said Tuesday.

The ambush, the deadliest single attack on the French military since 1983, led French President Nicolas Sarkozy to fly to Afghanistan to offer condolences and emphasize that France would stay in the war despite public misgivings at home. France recently sent 700 more soldiers to the country.

In the Afghan war, high death counts among international troops have usually been the result of aircraft being shot down or cleverly placed bombs. Monday's attack on the French, however, was carried out by massed Taliban fighters. Likewise, suicide attacks are normally the work of lone bombers, but at the NATO base, six came together.

As violence in Iraq has settled down in the past year, it has been on the upswing in Afghanistan, with the Taliban showing increasing boldness and sophistication. In the last three months, more foreign troops have been killed in Afghanistan than in Iraq, making this year one of the most lethal since U.S.-led military operations began in Afghanistan in 2001."

Bingo. Said this since the beginning. But I'd reword it "we should have finished this war and never thought of going into Iraq".

BTW - We lost two more CDN soldiers in Afghanistan last week in another Taliban ambush plus an innocent female aid worker in another incident.

Right. We should have never gone into Iraq in the first place. What a complete waste. A waste of lives, time and money.
Also, I am so sorry about your CDN soldiers and the French, but thanks for being there. If there is one war we should be fighting, this is it.

yeah. Your all right. We never should have gone into IRAQ. We should have let Sadam keep his people repressed and kill who eh wants when he wants. Granted, I would have thought it would have been planned out a bit better but going into IRAQ was not a mistake IMO.

Now going into IRAN in the near future....we will wait and see how that pans out.

She is in the 82nd Airborne CAB, working on Apaches. No details on exactly where she will be, but she will leave next year as early as March or as late as fall. Unfortunately with the way things are going, I expect it to be earlier rather than later.
