Tiding's of Stache's and Beards Can't Post

About a month ago I decided to try and grow a beard or rather a stache similiar to what Burt Reynolds had back in the 70's. I thought it would be....cool? In 2008? Yeah right....and I'm a cyclist, not exactly the finest attribute to be associated with.

Being 20 I'm capable of maintaining a full scruffy party without fear of of loose buds sprouting here and there. After a month I have a nice little entourage of black scruff. I want to rid myself of this fledgling beard yet I can see myself hiding treasures and various items in it after 5 months or so, which is just simply SO cool.

And thus I have laid the foundation but simply need to finish the job and leave it be for perhaps another 6 weeks and see what happens then. However....

Looking around I see very few sporting a hairy mask or even an epic stache. Is facial hair just an act of sacralige these days? I notice as well I'm treated a little differently in my daily routine from people I know and run in to, something that may sound silly yet my perceptions indicate a near sense of hostility when getting groceries or purchasing my EPO and Roids...(I kidd).

Any similiar experiences? Or am I just stuck in a bizzar-O world?

I have no idea what the Hell you are talking about. If you want a beard than have one. My opinion is that if it takes you 5-6 weeks to get something you describe as "black scruff" it probably looks pretty stupid. Rather than looking like Burt Reynolds you probably look like a kid who doesn't care too much about his personal appearance.

I am completely disgusted with the whole notion of "hiding treasures" in you facial har. What are you talking about? Do you dip it in hot water to make soup or something? GAG.

I have full facial hair now and have had it off and on numerous times since I was in my early 20s. I used to grow it every winter and shave it off in the summer. My current hair has been there for a couple years. If people treat me differently when I have a hairy face I've never noticed it, nor would it matter to me at all. However, rather than just looking like a wild man I have always trimmed it both in the cheek area and on the neck. Perhaps you need to trim it up a bit so you don't have the appearance of a homeless person if the opinions of other people matter that much to you.

I grew a full beard for the first time over last Christmas. It took about 2 weeks. It's got more gray in it than I'd like (I'm almost 37). The ladies seem to like it. I have to trim it weekly or it gets long quickly.

That is about a day's growth for me. I still have no freaking idea what the hell this kid is talking about. He tried to repsond to me, but all he ended up doing was copying what I said to him. GADS!

Seems a little thin but so was mine at age 21. Sab, I'd go with it!

"Is facial hair just an act of sacralige these days?"

Styles come and go. Back in the 70's and 80's it seemed almost everbody had a beard or stache. In fact, I had a beard for about seven years from the mid 70's to early 80's. It seems now that short haircuts and clean shaven is what's generally popular nowadays.

When I was in high school in the late 60's, side burns were all the rage. Had a friend in HS who couldn't grow burns very well so he used to pencil them in to add to the peach fuzz. Very noticeable after he went for swim however.:-)

do you remember the stuble days of the early 80's (Miami Vice influence)? If couldn't be just any stuble, it had to be groomed stubble.

Good grief, I remember that. While not "groomed" I have that look every day I shave by 5:00 (hmm, do you think that is where they came up with the 5:00 shadow?).

George Michael, the singer, was the master of the groomed stubble. Of course he also wore make-up, so it might have dinged his machissmo ratings.

All the hipsters here in NYC have a moustache or scruffy beard. Think of the band the Killers, and you'll pretty much get a decent idea of what to expect floating around downtown Manhattan.

Not many can pull it off...but when they do it is a winner.

You're not wrong, that hair looks awfully pubic...
