With the move to Spring, will the course remain the same?

The only change (other than moving it to Spring, snif snif) is that the Middle Distance can now be an F1 format: 1/1/1/1/1.

SC and LC will be unchanged in format.

It's still the exact same run and bike loops, done X number of times, so it will still hurt just as good as always.

I'll post on this thread, with the title edited. Our webmaster is taking a final exam this morning but then should be able to open the registration. Thanks for your interest.

My only suggestion is a L, M or S on the calf of each racer

Going forward, the race numbers will denote which field, 1-100 LC, 101-200 MC, 201-300 SC. I've just about worked my way through leftover stuff from the Xterra trail runs.

Won't that be embarrassing for those of us with an "S" when the "L" goes flying by..............

I woke up this morning, and thought...somewhere, somehow, someone was looking out for us. If TODAY was AmZof I think I would have rolled over like a juicy sausage link trying to achieve cooked-perfection. Then again, there is that thing about the beer.

As I was out running this am, I recalled that it was 5 years ago *this* weekend that AmZof 1.0 took place, in remarkably similar conditions.
It was a fine, soft morning. (so much so, that I dawdled and diddled for a good half an hour, before finally HTFU'ing and heading out)
Amazing what that one weekend earlier does for things. The difference between lovely, and EPIC. Today would have been the latter, fo' sho.

I have a hard time picturing you as a "slow roller". ;-)

1 week makes a BIG difference in October. Today's weather is pretty much the same as it was for AmZof in 2005, only more rain in 2005.

I just got back from a ride in this misery. I can't imagine racing, especially up and down those hills all day.

Here's one of the threads that described the day we had, waaay back in aught-five.

http://forum.slowtwitch.com/...ing=am%20zof;#584850

(kinda funny who the pos(t)er was - remember that guy? I wonder if Paulo knows where to find him? ;-)

Original forecast was for lows around 40, highs into the low 50's, 90% chance of rain. However, due to the raging T-storms the night before, the temps dropped a bit and remained low (high was 41) all day long. Wet, wet leaves everywhere - it was about as epic as it gets.

Fun!

and even last year as I rode through the sloppy, pouring rain in LP and a month prior had hallucinated all the way through the 99 degree run at Eagleman, I still found comfort, happiness, and solice in knowing that those conditions were not anywhere near as epic and hellacious as amzof 1.0 '05.

And I only made it base-camp 1 that day :(

Re: 2010 American Zofingen [alias18] [In reply to] Can't Post

Good on you all for even THINKING about training right now. I've spent the week doing home repairs and taking lots of man time with my two boys. I may or may not run next Sunday as the first shot of the 2010 season.

In the meantime....I am determined to go ST-silent (as well as cyclingnews, runnersweb, velonews, etc.....) as of 12 midnight. I'll resurface April 1 with ML. If you really must know what I'm up to...I'll still be found on Facebook...since that's how I keep up with my two oldest kids, and other relatives and friends. Mostly I'll just be training...looking high and low for a 30 minute answer to ML. We'll see if I've found it come May.

I am a definite RSVP for Du Nats and AmZof LC. I'm working on a Charleston contingent for AmZof, John. I've got one one the line...the rest of them....well...we'll see how good my smack talk skills are.

And I'm still considering the Harriman/AmZof/Triple T insanity.

Brian - good luck this offseason, hope it goes well for ya. See ya at Du Nats!

Signing off on ST, but staying on FB? Yeah, that's like going cold turkey on drinking - but continuing to smoke crack for the communal aspects of it. ;-)

I've got Philly mary staring me in the face in <5 weeks now, which is the *only* reason I'm back at it already. It would have been much more preferable if I had done like in all prior years and basically just shut it down after AmZof, only run when the mood strikes and usually only on trails, dust off the mtb and do some soul rides, just getting out there to get out there.

Yeah...I'm looking forward to the soul rides AND runs.

And I'll own the comment on FB. It truly is the best way I can keep up with my kids, though. Otherwise I'd quit that. I'm going to try to minimize other interactions...we'll see how that goes.

I'm in as well, also aiming at Lake Placid. The big question is do I do the Harryman half / AmZof LC double?

the bigger question is how could you not try? do you actually need your legs for anything else? i'm in (for both). like you said, if saturday turns out to a rough day at the office, you can fall back to the hardly wimpy SC option on Sunday.

Re: 2010 American Zofingen [tetsuoni] [In reply to] Can't Post

The Harryman/AmZof double is an insane challenge (perhaps only capable of being accomplished by the likes of Finman). I can't fathom turning around and doing AmZof LC after the Harryman half. However, I encourage everyone who ever finished ahead of me on the AmZof LC that will be racing in May to try it. That (and locking out their gearing in the big ring, hiding their sneakers and handcuffing them to the bike racks) is about the only way I am going to be in the same zip code with the LC studs.

Seriously, those doing the Harryman/Amzof double should have a special category or at least an astericks on their race numbers. At least with an astericks on their numbers, as the "Hairy Double" folks lap me, as if I were moving slower than a tree in the woods of the Preserve, the message of just how slow I am can be delivered without wasting any energy on actively laughing, taunting and heckling or wasting words mere pack fodder like me. The "Hairy Double" will be a very different type of race for those attempting this most difficult of stupid human tricks and possibly even more humbling for me.

So, on second thought, don't do the double, I am not sure my fragile psyche can take finishing hours behind a bunch of racers that are already battered, bruised and beaten from the Harryman half. ;-)

Re: 2010 American Zofingen [dawhead] [In reply to] Can't Post

How can I deny your logic? I cannot.

I'm already entered into Harryman half and I hope this big weekend concept adds to their numbers. The last thing I want is for AmZof to draw racers away from their fine event.

We'll look into finding a special sponsor to put up cool prizes for Hairy Double finishers, maybe belt buckles like the Western States 100 (thanks Big Du Yoda for that cool idea).

Well that sucks. When was the date changed from the weekend of the 10th? I've already convinced my wife that she can survive for two weeks from nationals to AmZof, but now it is three and that won't fly. I guess my redemption from DNF will have to wait.

PS the initial post still reflects the week earlier date.

Sorry Chad, with half of our racers coming in from out-of-town, Mother's Day is a huge impediment. One more week of spring will also help and now we can pull of the Double Harry Stupid Human Trick.
