the Double Harry Stupid Human Trick.
This stupid human trick makes the Whiteface/Epicman [ML stupidity challenge] seem totally reasonable. While I may be wimpy, I think that the half followed by the SC would still involve a lot of pain. Hell, Harriman alone involves a lot of pain. If nothing else I will be there to watch the carnage unfold for sure.

That's too bad since the Du Nationals/AZ road trip was fueling all my "get back in shape" motivation. Oh, well, maybe I'll just hang out with Doug M. and do nats and White Lake again. Though the White Lake Half is a poor substitution for AmZof. :(

Sorry Chad, with half of our racers coming in from out-of-town, Mother's Day is a huge impediment. One more week of spring will also help and now we can pull of the Double Harry Stupid Human Trick.
Yeah, the Double Stupid Folks should have something on their calves so that we can salute them as they pass us :)

Or we can just yell out, Hey Stupid!

(maybe you should warn them of that before the start, lol!)

True, true, I am in need of a good old fashion ass whoopin. Am I going to be the only lunatic to do ( I mean try) this lunacy?

Somehow I doubt it.

The Canuckistanians seem to be particularly keen on the idea. Other soft-in-the-head folks, such as the RD, also appear to be interested in the Hariy Double (tm).
I've got 5 months to mull it over...

Been putting off doing it for a few years now. Already signed up for the Nationals DU Off and On road. Will probably see how the winter training goes then decide F1 or Long. Good luck to all.

I have to say that after reading a bunch of blogs by different AmzoF LC racers, doing the Harry Half followed by AmzoF LC may rival the Bataan Death march. However, I am starting to feel it.

Was that the relay version of it? ;-) You get an A for Hooked on Phonics, but what you meant was Bataan Death March.

We'll look into finding a special sponsor to put up cool prizes for Hairy Double finishers, maybe belt buckles like the Western States 100 (thanks Big Du Yoda for that cool idea).

Belt buckles for long course. Since only about 0-3 people will finish a hairy double those would be some expensive buckles. I'm telling you, belt buckles for long course = sold out, at least for a Fall event. Spring is a little tougher to get ready.

After watching the bigs dogs in LC I might take another crack at it, otherwise F1 for sure.

Is there a chart showing the elevation gain for both the run and bike? I'm considering doing the Short Course.

Re: 2010 American Zofingen REGISTRATION OPEN [mambwe] [In reply to] Can't Post

There's a bike course profile under the bike course page at www.americanzofingen.racesonline.com

There's a run course map, but without elevations, on the run course page of the same website. The run course is essential a 5 mile circuit, with 3 steep hills which get progressively steeper, interconnected with less steep descents on mostly carriage trails with good footing. There's a 4th climb that is not as steep as the first 3. There's about 700 feet of climbing per lap of the run course.

Registration is open at www.cm2promotions.com

I was looking at the bike profile and there is no way to zoom or make it larger. I can't see the numbers on the chart. Can you let us know what the numbers should read?

Can you let us know what the numbers should read?

the first one says "this hurts like hell, right from the start"
the second one says "this doesn't hurt so much at first, but the 2nd and 3rd times over this puppy and you'll be begging for relief (which is coming)"

Lather, rinse, repeat. ;-)

Re: 2010 American Zofingen REGISTRATION OPEN [mambwe] [In reply to] Can't Post

Sorry about that. I've got the original in my computer but when I zoom it's too blurry to read. That chart is 3 laps of the bike course, so 82.5 miles long. The 3 shorter peaks are Mohonk, and the higher peaks are Minnewaska.

I tried to do a mapmyride for you to get their elevation chart, but my computer froze.

I'll try to update the website in the future with better charts for both bike and run taken with a Garmin.

Andrew, thanks for the great link. The start line is different (it appears this map starts at the TOP of the first climb), but the loop accurate.

No problem at all. I've got a group of 3 guys plus me so far that are hoping to get up there this year for the first Spring AmZo to represent the dirty south.

I don't think the chart counts the exit and re-entry to the TA, which is maybe 3-4-5 tenths of a mile each way, I'd imagine.
My Garmin had the **3 bike laps as: 28.12m, 27.74m, 27.84m. Assuming I can add correctly, that comes to 83.7m total.

(I hit the lap button maybe a minute beyond the bike aid station on L2, hence that one being a bit "long", and the 3rd one being a bit "short" - the total should be correct, naturally.)

FWIW, my 3 laps off the bike were: 4.96m, 4.97m, 4.98m.
