Austin Marathon 2010 Can't Post

I've found some older threads out there, but can anyone comment on the 2010 Austin Marathon course? I had an off day at NYC and was thinking about trying to run a fast one in the early winter. Plus, I'll be there that weekend to visit family so it would fit nicely.

Thanks,
Michael

I ran it in '04 for a PR (2:49) back when it was the Motorola Marathon, but I think they have changed the course almost every year of its existance. The '04 course had very small rollers through parts of the course but it was. From what I can tell now, in reading the reviews, it seems that it's gotten quite a bit tougher/hillier. Check out www.marathonguide.com and put in 'austin' in the Quick Race Search panel (located to the right about 1/4 of the way down the page). The next page will return an 'Austin Marathon' link that you can click, which will open up a page of reviews from people that have raced it. (there are over 34 pages of reviews going back several years).

I ran New York as well and all that concrete on the course destroyed my quads! Good luck!

The course has changed over the years and is no longer what I would call a "PR" course. Its a bit challenging. If you are looking for a fast time then look elsewhere.

PS. It is fun though!

Adam's definitely right. The course used to be point to point starting in north Austin and finishing downtown. That resulted in about a 400 foot or so elevation drop from start to finish.

Now, it's a single loop that heads north then turns around and comes back south. You've got a 200 foot or so climb over the first 3 miles and then back down it over the next 3. Just before mile 8, you start a gradual 350 foot or so climb that lasts until just before mile 19. The fun part is that it's mostly downhill from there, so you can cruise to the finish.
