Best aero frame bottle Can't Post

I'm thinking about getting an aero frame bottle/cage for my P2k, and wondering if folks have any feedback on which of the following is best or any other suggestions -

1. Arundel
2. Bontrager Speed Bottle
3. Profile Razor

Thanks in advance,

Jon

bontrager speed bottle:
rattles around in its 'cage' after a while.

do not recommend

Don't "squeeze" the "long" sides when you close the nozzle...hold it across the "short" sides when you close it. No rattles.

Another option is the Specialized bottle. It seems to "match up" with quite a few frames fairly well.

edit: I take that back on the Specialized bottle since I forgot the OP was talking about a P2K. The Spec bottle works well with downtube bosses, while the P2K only has seat tube bosses. I used a Bontrager bottle on my P2k, but I had to drill some extra holes in the cage to get it lowered nicely in the frame:

ill give that a try, i think it has more to do with the 'cage' opening up over time. maybe no though

I've only tried the Profile Razor and can tell you that with time the connection gets very loose - probably the metal "pinchers" spread out a bit. It got to where the bottle was falling out at least once/ride so I took it off and went back to a standard cage/bottle.

After a year of use, no issues at all with my Bontrager Speed bottle.

x2.

Mine sounds like I have a tupperware full of spare change at this point.

I have tried everything...

New bottle
Paying attention to how I squeeze it
Covering the bottle & the cage with tape.

It looks cool, it serves a purpose, thought it's small, and I hate behind-the-saddle things..

But I'm not convinced by the speed bottle.

Too much concern with aerodynamics and weight, etc

Just ride your bike

Put it into perspective, would concentrating on riding your bike hard, and even harder give you more gain in the long run,

or will getting an aerodynamic water bottle make you faster?

just saying

I'm just saying that there's nothing wrong with doing both...is there a rule against that or something?

Are you packing a picnic lunch in that huge bag dangling under your saddle? And what about that rear skewer sticking up in the wind?

I may have to change my tag line. ;-)

Every time I post pics from this TT series it seems I have to explain some of this stuff:

- It's an informal TT that I ride to from my house. I need a patch kit/tube/CO2 just so I know I can make it home. It's just like a training ride. To make you feel better though, later in the year I was packing that stuff in a bento ;-)

- That skewer is in the shadow of the rear chainstay.

Re: Best aero frame bottle [jomor] [In reply to] Can't Post

I have been using the Bontrager Speed Bottle with good success on a few bikes. I currently am building up a P2K and will be using this bottle like Tom has done. As he mentioned, you have to drill new mounting holes in the cage to lower the cage on the seattube but you can really get this bottle down low to the BB. I think the bottle is just touching the downtube on mine when as low as possible on the seattube.

I am however thinking of getting the Wedgie in the near future and using a dimpled water bottle on there. ;^)

Is it more aero without the bottle at all if the tt would not require you to drink any fluids? Like a 20K tt?

I am actually not sure if it is more aero or not. I think for a TT, I would go no bottle at all but for races where I need water I actually use a bottle between the aerobar extensions and put my repair stuff in my aero bottle.

Re: Best aero frame bottle [Juanmoretime] [In reply to] Can't Post

yes, it is almost always more aero to have no bottle

and come on, you don't need fluids for a 40k tt either =)

FWIW the Arundel in it's lowest mount sits flush against both tubes:

Very nice!! I think we may have a winner!! Have you had any "issues" with the Arundel, similar to what others have noted about the Bontrager?

No issues thus far. Like I said, it's Arundel...they do this for a living.

Tom,
What kind of bars/pads are on that bike? They look kind of like a funky, narrow one-piece bar that Scott made 18+/- years ago (at least from a side view).
