Best road bike deal $1400-$1900...???
Can't Post
I'm in the market for a new roady, as a second bike, to do some group rides, hills, and the ocassional hilly-twisty tri. I currently have a P2-SL which is awesome, but limitating in some ways. My budget is $1,400-$1,900 and would prefer something like a good alluminum frame with 105 or Ultegra. Looking for a solid frame to last me at least 5 years, so I would prefer to buy a new bike and make the guarantee worth in case anything happens... Any suggestions...?
Thanks!

if that bike wasn't a cervelo it'd be perfect.

Is this better? (Besides, I don't understand the mutual exclusiveness between Cervelo and perfection)

NOT.AT.ALL. now every single component you have on that sh!t paint job is as i see it, venomous in it's beauty. the frame, not so much. now i like your theme keeping, kinda, but if those parts were to be on my specialized tarmac, well, art would be the end result. and with myself on it? perfection!!
ha.

You should be able to find a Cervelo S1 for that money.

I find a couple of things funny about your statement above:
First, the paint job is actually part of what I like the most about that frame. I'm a fan of the "panel" look...to each his own, I guess ;-)
Second, putting all that stuff on a Tarmac would actually make me slower...so why would I want to do that? (Even though I get a team discount through Specialized, I still haven't seen fit to replace this "classic"...there's a reason for that...well, at least until Mark Cote comes up with an "aero road bike" for the big S.)

The best deals in that price range are second hand. But for new bikes:
Check out Kestrel Talons on ebay. A guy discounts them online.
Also Neuvation is now offering full bikes. Great deals for the money, just like the wheels.

The CAAD9 4 with 105 retails for $1499. If you bump up to the CAAD9 4 it retails for $1799 plus you get full carbon fork with carbon steerer, SRAM Rival (which some say is better than Ultegra), BB30 and probably one of the best aluminum frames you can buy in this range.
I recently got the CAAD9 4 in matte black (BBQ) and am very happy with it. Check it out.

yes, your soloist is a wind cutting time traveling machine, no doubt and those parts are definately supposed to be on your stab-me-in-the-eyeballs-repeatedly-now-and-forever-and-ever-more-Amen paint job, i said on MY tarmac.
i just want some new parts and those could look good.
i'm not a fan of that particular bike is all and i'm not sure when it was supposed to become apparent to myself that your opinion of bikes was supposed to negate mine. was it? i didn't get the memo.

Hey...you're the one who jumped in here and stated your unsolicited opinion about jackmott's bike that except for it being a Cervelo, it would be perfect. Don't go lookin' at me...
So...besides the paint job (which admittedly is easily changed) what else about that frame don't you like so much that you're not a "fan"? Just curious.
I dunno, the fact that the same frame (with only minor changes) is still being sold today after 8 years on the market seems to imply that the Vroomen-White boys did
something
right with that design...

Is this a "show me your metal soloist thread"? Here's mine. Have less than 1900 into it with full ultegra. Well not counting the rear wheel in that pic anyway...

Can bamboo be formed (heat/steam formed?) into aero shapes? ;-)

This feedback is really great, thanks!
The pics are great too.
I have to say that I'm inclined towards the S1, I have no complaints about my P2-SL, although the CAAD9 seems really tight.
Are there any differences between these two (S1 or CAAD9) that I should know? (aside from price, aero down-tube, reversible seat post) ?

nothing that really matters for a road bike.
the seat tube on the S1 will tend to creak if not cared for periodically..price of an aero seat tube.
I suggest going with the one that speaks to your inner aesthetic sense. That gives you the most motivation to get on and ride.
for me thats an aero weenie frame, but not for everyone

I would consider the CAAD 9 the number 1 option.
Followed closely by the Spooky skeletor, but that may be hard to hit in your budget.
You could get a used s1 but it won't have a warranty and it really isn't any better than the other 2 bikes mentioned.
That said,, those 3 aluminum bikes are better or equal to 95 percent of the carbon bikes made. No reason to ever upgrade any of those 3 frames.

Thanks, good point about the warranty, since I plan to keep it for a long time and buying used/ebay always has some degree of risk...
Aesthetics aside the CAAD9 does seem like the best deal so far...

Just curious to why you feel this way, My carbon fork is pretty much indistinguishable from my frame on my bbq caad9 4 unless you tap on it. Also, many ppl complain that aluminum is too stiff or uncomfortable on long rides and I thought a carbon fork would dampen road chatter and increase feel/performance?
