Boonen - WTF?
Can't Post
Shit like this makes me mad...What the hell is "indirect contact" with cocaine? Maybe he was taking a tour of the cocaine factory and accidently inhaled?
Maybe Dean Wormer needs to say to him "Son, thin, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life."

While I have no idea what "indirect contact" with cocaine is, it's a sad day when your defense is that you are a blackout drunk and can't recall if you took the drug or not.
I just hope the guy gets some help.

I don't get it, either. I don't understand how it can be in your hair sample if you didn't take it.
+1 on him getting help.

no kidding - I think I would rather see him using a little blow from time to time than having "alcohol induced blackouts"

That is a weak argument at best but with
Quote:
Boonen, who had tested positive for cocaine a year earlier as well, has said he suffered an alcohol-induced blackout on the night of his alleged cocaine use and doesn’t recall whether he took the drug this year.
this, you have to be a damned imbecile to believe he didn't take it.

Blackouts. Cocaine. Weak and distorted "explanations" for this behavior? Hmmmm..... It would seem Mr. Boonen has a substance abuse problem. It is no laughing matter. There is no mention of treatment. Hopefully he is working at something.

This story about Boonen is confusing me. He had contact (see urine sample and hair test). However, it was a very small dose. Not even enough for a euphoric effect, apparently. Given that he has some experience with the drug (see two earlier positive tests), this is very strange. If he snorted, he used a very small dose, but why would you do so? If he did not snort it, it could have been something added to a drink. Why would he do that purposely?
I hate conspiracy stuff, but this time it is the narrative I can best understand.
Suppose: Someone puts some coke in his drink without him knowing, for some dark reason. Then, this person tips someone with an official legal position (claiming he "saw Boonen using coke"). Then follows a drug control the very next day and voila, he is positive. Boonen is still pretty cool about this (he did not use coke, he thinks). Then comes the news of being positive. How to explain this? The only thing he can genuinely remember is drinking a couple of glasses (hey, it is Belgium we're talking about), but not until blackout. He drank enough to be driven home by others, but not that he was on another planet. This does not make sense to explain a positive coke test. Hence, the solution is to exaggerate the drinking and to pretend the blackout.

I guess he took all our exhortations of "hookers and blow" too literally? ;-)
Reminds me of the Simpsons episode, where they drug-test Homer, but he gets his urine swapped w/ Otto, the druggie bus driver.
When Mr Burns reads off the laundry list of drugs found in said urine to Homer, and then finishes up with "and trace amounts of human urine... eeeew." ;-),
it makes me think of pro cyclists.
They probably have so much crap floating around in them, there's hardly any room for the stuff that's supposed to be there.

I can think of at least one way to ingest cocaine "indirectly," where the point of the cocaine was not for his benefit, but for hers.
Just sayin'.

I don't get this. Doing cocaine outside of competition is not against the rules of cycling. Why
would
he be banned from the Tour? Cycling fans, even the casual Lance observers in the US, are perfectly capable of distinguishing between performance enhancing drugs and party drugs. And there is no evidence that pro cyclists' drug abuse exceeds the background rate of any other pro sports, so I fail to see how this is a PR disaster, rather than just a reminder of what people already know.

Call me a raging leftist, but I agree. TB doesn't strike me as being any different than any other star talent who's prone to enjoying a little excess partying... he just happens to excel in bike racing rather than basketball, or music, or film. I think the peloton is more interesting with him than without.

Agreed - he is not a cheat
But surely he can be accused of bringing the sport in (further) disrepute? He has prior form as well....
Maybe I am just jaded - just finished reading the excellent "Bad Blood" - not a happy read

I'm not really sure what to think of all of this.
Alcohol consumption, cocaine use do not mean he has a substance abuse problem.
Some of you people must have grown up with your head in the sand or up your asses.
Get over it! The man partied, snorted a little cocaine and probably even had pre marital sex with some hookers. So what!?

Here is the thing I dont get.
A. How is it an "out of competition" test yet it is during the season? Do people have to be at actual races for it not to be consided "out of competition".
B. Why even report it if you cant get in trouble cycling related. It's NOT against the rules (cycling), but yet the reports seem to make it out like TB has cheated the sport.

He had only been banned because part of the tour goes through italy. otherwise, he would have been good to go.
Glad to see he's racing

I think you're mixing up this story with Alexandre Valverde's, who was banned from racing in Italy because results from testing by Italian authorities implicated him in the
Puerto
scandal. He fought the ban but was ultimately left off of his team's TdF roster.

It was his second offense in 6 months, there was nothing indirect about it. He himself said "I have a problem." following the second offense.
Ulrich was suspended for driving under the influence and taking ectasy a bunch of years back, and we all know damn well if hypothetically and American had tested positive for coke, at least an american with the last name of Armstrong that the Tour and the French in general would be crying for a lifetime ban from cycling. So where is the consistency? Nope no double standard here. I enjoy watching Boonen do what he does best on a bike, but this is complete bullshit for sure.
