Boston Marathon vs. Collegiate Nationals?
Can't Post
I have the opportunity to do both, but they're 2 days apart! Which is better, an iconic marathon (which I trained all season to qualify for) or a national-level Olympic distance tri, that I will age out of next year?

I'm fairly sure Boston will be around for a while. If you age out of Collegiate Nationals next year why not do that race? Is it still in Lubbock?

Yeah, the Boston Marathon will be back every year. Collegiate Nationals won't be, for you.
Do the Nationals.

College Nats. I went in 2007...checking out the girls from other schools made it all worth while.
But seriously, I had the same argument with doing St. Anthony's. Several friends were going down to Florida for the race so I chose to turn down Boston, because I can qualify for the rest of my life.
You're only an undergrad once, plus you're young.

Yeah, I'm a girl, how'd you guess?
I'm also 27 so I feel a bit old going to Collegiate Nationals (grad student). So it's not like I have some longing or connection to the undergrad team here. Sort of stumbled in to this, but figured why not? And it's probably stupid, but I am trying to jump through logistical hoops to do both events! But assuming that doesn't work out, I really have to choose!

Nationals. Boston will be around for many years to come, but your opportunity to compete for your school will not. Nothing beats representing your school colors.

You guys already know your nationals squads? Nationals is five months away! There's a lot of fitness to be gained in that time...
Nats, definitely.

Nationals, because it gets you out of the Northeast in April. Get as far away from New York as possible that time of year.

your boston qualification is good for two years if you just recently qualified it is valid for 2010 and 2011. I don't know when your qualification was but if you are of the mind that you actually think you're unlikely to boston qualify again you should be aware that you can use that run for two years. I'm of the opinion though that if you can qualify once you can qualify twice.

You wouldn't say that if you had ever been to the NATIONAL RANCHING HERITAGE CENTER. Do your research ;)

To be clear, the Boston qualifying window is 18 months before the start of the Boston in question.
( In a sense you kind of said this but it might not be clear to the reader.)

If you're going to age out then do the triathlon. I don't think it would be more fun than Boston, but it's a supply vs demand thing.
Personally I would do both and just sandbag Boston. You're probably not gonna be setting any PRs at Boston anyway.
