Bottom Bracket Compatibility Can't Post

I've received some conflicting advice on this subject, seemingly evenly from (gasp) my LBS. The question is how do I know what bottom brackets are compatible with what cranks?

To be specific, the two bikes in question are my Trek 2.3 (nothing fancy but gets the job done quite fine) road bike and my Felt B12 Tri bike. Both came with Shimano Hollowtech II based drivetrains.

I also have a Quarq CinQo saturn built on a FSA Team Issue crankset and the corresponding FSA MegaExo BB that came with that. I want to switch my Quarq to my road bike for indoor winter training, which already involves raising the front derauiller and staying out of the high gears because the Trek is a compact double and the Quarq is a standard double. All of that being said, I currently have the MegaExo BB on my Felt and am wondering if I can just leave the Shimano BB on the road bike and pop my crank right in. Giving it a quick test, it seems like it fits OK but definitely tighter on entry and exit (yes, I know that's what she said).

Tried to investigate some on the FSA site and it even looks like they have several offerings of different MegaExo BB's that are only compatible to specific cranks in their current line. This runs contrary to what my LBS suggested, which was that I could pretty much jam my crank on any hollowtech II BB that I cared to.

You are fine - you will need to move the F-Der a few MM...but all is well.

Mediocre is just that...When did it start becoming a life goal?
