Cervelo R2.5
Can't Post
I know there has been some discussion about the Cervelo carbon R2.5 before, but, I'm wondering if there is any new information out. Has anyone had one on the road, good or bad comments. And when will they be available.
I see the CSC riders aren't even riding them yet.

Not true. There are a few out there. I've got one. Had one on order since interbike, but a friend of mine is a friend of a guy who works in a shop in Virginia where they had 1 in the size I wanted. They were happy to get rid of it as the chances of seeing another one or getting it in a different size for a customer were slim to none for a while.
Gerard claims that any being produced are going to customers right now and that's why CSC isn't riding them right now. Customers first...how do you like that! I think you'll start seeing them in shops in a few months.
I've been out on it once (there's 6 inches of snow on the ground here) for about an hour until I froze to death. Very smooth, shockingly stable too, even no hands. Amazing bike, if you can find one.

customer service
Charles (and others),
Thanks for your feedback, it's good to be confronted with the sides of
our company that could use improvement.
With regards to our deliveries, a lot has improved since last year. If
you talk to a dealer now you will find that by and large, we do deliver
on time. This is mostly due to the new process we use for introducing
new product, and it seems to be working. Unfortunately we are still
working through two issues from the past but once we are through with
those I am confident these problems will be gone.
The first issue is the carbon seatpost, in retrospect it should not have
been introduced in 2003 and with our new intro process it would not have
been. But it was, and it has been slow solving it. While I appreciate
your suggestion of not providing estimated dates for shipping the posts,
unfortunately that does not work in the real world. People demand a
date, and us saying "we honestly don't know, we'll let you know when we
do" does not work. We tried. And so we offer the best estimate we can,
and unfortunately those best estimates have not been good enough.
The second issue is the R2.5, again it should not have been introduced
that early and we could have saved ourselves a lot of trouble if Team
CSC hadn't used it in the tour. But they had been riding the prototypes,
loved them and wanted them. Demand has simply been overwhelming, and it
has basically taken until now to get a better handle on it. During the
remainder of the '04 season we will catch up with this issue, and then
we will hopefully not encounter these issues again.
But again, thanks for pointing it out and I will do my best to make sure
it does not happen again.
Gerard.

I saw one at the Toronto Bike Show a couple of weeks ago at the Endurosport exhibit. Only one I've ever seen in real life. Endurosport is a multi-sport shop in Toronto that is particularly tight with Gerard so they probably as good a bet as any to get in touch with.
BTW, it was a very sweet looking bike. Here's their url:

You must be thinking of a pull out poster in your playboy you are jacking aroung to. Tom, to answer your question I saw one at Gateway bikes in Portland Oregon.

flytri,
My comment was merely reinforcement that in these parts, at least, the only place we see Cervelo R2.5's is in printed materials. It was not intended to offend you. BTW, its nice to discover someone who is a resource on knowledge regarding Playboy and jacking around.

Gerard: I decided to order a 2.5 from one of the shops in Toronto. They said delivery would be in the middle of April. Is this true. I would like to have a fall back plan for the season if I don't get it by the end of April.
Thanks in advance

You implied I saw it on a poster, when I really got a view of the bike in the flesh... As for being a resource on Playboy, I like to stay on good terms with my girlfriend... Any ways for the record they have a R2.5 in the shop....
