Forerunner 305 foot pod question
Can't Post
Why does Garmin's customer service suck so bad? 35 minute hold time just to speak with someone and then they are useless. Anyway maybe someone here can help.
I bought a Forerunner 305 but have not been able to get it to recognize the foot pod. I have followed all the directions for turning on the foot pod as well as scanning for the foot pod. I even had two people in my local bike shop look at it and they couldn't figure it out either. We have turned the GPS off and rescanned to no avail. Not sure why it won't work. Any ideas?

Which version of the footpod do you have? Have you tried a new battery?

To second the question about the battery. I have heard reports that sometime the accessories for the 305(i.e hr monitor, cadence sensor and footpod) sit in the package for awhile and the battery is dead when it is purchased. I would replace the battery and see where that gets you.

I have a similar problem when switching between the cadence sensors on two bikes.
What I've found to work best is to tell the garmin you don't have a footpod. Then say you do. Then rescan. Sometimes going back to the main screen in between might help. Also make sure you're moving the footpod (light will blink) while it's scanning.
Battery definitely is the first thing to check.

Tried the new battery and followed your suggestions but it still isn't picking it up. Any more ideas?

I've given up after really long hold times (twice), and each time I've contacted them via their web form, and they've gotten back to me within 2 days.
Not stellar, but they've been really professional and helpful each time. Try the web form to contact them.

Amazing, because for me Garmin support has always been excellent.
My second Forerunner 305 takes on water even when just being rinsed. (This is
the second because they replaced my first one, outside of warranty, for free).
My cadence sensor stopped working. I change the battery, and was able to
determine it was a bad cadence sensor.
I'm right in the middle of training for IMAZ and use mine 5 days a week. Used
the web form, explained the problem, asked if I could have them ship me
replacements if I gave them a CC, and they'd credit me back when I shipped them
back. No problems. They called me for a CC# (which went straight to my vmail, hate
that), I called back and gave them one, and they're shipping.
If I were you I'd do the following:
1) Go to a place that has the footpod (maybe your LBS) and try that and see if
your head unit will pick it up.
2) If yes to #1, contact Garmin to get a replacement footpod.
3) If no to #1, try another forerunner to see if it will pick up either. If it picks
up both, contact Garmin and get the head unit replaced.
