Front brake on Cervelo P4 Can't Post

What brake caliper are people using on the front of their P4?

Go balls out man...I mean save the weight and speed - who needs a front caliper?

----------------------------------------------------------

f.k.a - Record9, Record9ti Record10, Record10ti, Record10Carbon, but not SuperRecord11 as there are no bar ends.

Agreed. Removing the front caliper has been tested in the wind tunnel has been shown to be worth at *least* four minutes in a 40k TT. More, if there's a cross-wind. Plus, the weight savings, alone, will make climbing a cinch.

You mean like the P4 pictured here? ;-)

I like the high tech bottle cage ON the rider...

In the link, John Cobb mentions the hands high position and how when it works, it really works and when it doesn't, well, it really doesn't. Are there any rules of thumb out there regarding when or on what riders the hands high position works?

I guess leaving off the brake is to make up for the 1ft+ of uncut steerer tube? =:-0

I'm also wondering about the logic of testing frames like that without at least a flat rear disc...it's all about the interactions, right?

BTW, where have I seen that hand position and bottle placement before? Hmmmmm....Oh yeah! I remember!

It would be a shame if it was anything else but this:

...or, at a minimum, one of these:

Tom,

What cage brand are you using to mount your bottle below the extensions?

Thanks,

Scott

It's a Profile Design Stryke and it was just zip-tied to one of the extensions (with a small bit of rubber padding under one end to get the spacing/angle right).

Ahhh...I presume that you're running with an empty bottle then?

My experience with the Profile Design Stryke cage is that it's quite brittle and would never work in that orientation with a full bottle.

Tom,
Have you done any testing on the benefit of you Aero or Die brake verus a typical sidepull. Also, if you've gone to the trouble of elimanting the brake housing in the wind you should elimante the RD housing also. Looks to be about the same benefit.

I actually am not running it there now since I have different bars...but I did run it with a full bottle at times.

No...I haven't...and I'm not sure I would be able to detect the difference either...

BTW, it's the "Poor Man's Aero Brake", NOT the "Aero or Die Brake"...it works very well as a brake, especially with the Koolstop pads ;-)

Yeah...I hear you about that rear housing. As soon as Andy C. finally gives me the Hooker brakes that are rightfully mine, I can take care of that :-) Even so, with my left leg flopping around in front of that housing, I'm not sure how much it's really hurting things.

Re: Front brake on Cervelo P4 [Tom A.] [In reply to] Can't Post

I just wanted to distinguish between the two brakes in the pics. BTW I was referring to the rear derailler housing loop not the rear brake housing. Pretty cool tinkering overall on the bike. I'm in the same boat I love to tinker with my TT bike. I pretty much try to make some sort of improvement in between every race, no matter how small.

Ah...I misread your comment, but yes, there too. I've got an idea for that as well :-)

Yeah...my son once asked me why I liked bike racing (in particular TTs) so much...well, besides the obvious health benefits and competition aspects, I told him that I really enjoy the "tinkering" part of working on my bikes as well. So, even when I'm resting, I can still be participating in my hobby :-D

The hooker is pretty fast

There are many ways to hange the centerpull, e.g. http://uat.vngroup.com/...Images/Boomfull7.jpg

But when will the "hands up" work?
Is it for the aggressive position? Wide hip people? For people that can turn their hands and head into one object for the wind?

I can't field test it here. Last month we haven't had a day with no wind :(

When it measures to be faster, of course ;-)

You can still field test in wind if it's relatively steady...it just makes the calculations a bit more involved...

Then I have to do some testing next week ;) Any tips for what kind of underarm angels I should try?

Re: Front brake on Cervelo P4 [Tom A.] [In reply to] Can't Post

Are the brake levers mounted horizontally inside the (what appear to be scott style) aerobars. Or, do you have the wire style 'aerobrake' that Titanflex offers? How well does it handle with such narrow 'handlebars.' I know the Swiss Miss uses a similar bar arrangement, albeit with twist brakes, but it appears scary to have only, what, 36cm between the widest part of the bars?
I have purchased the stuff for the same set up you have there, since I have zero chance of securing a hooker...er...a.... Hooker brake.

John Cobb seemed to be saying, in the prior thread, that your set up would be an advantage over side pull brakes, since they sit directly in front of the headtube and the airstream can rejoin around the headtube.

Yep...they're Scott 100K bars with CX brakes mounted inside the loops:

How does it handle? I don't seem to have any problems taking 90 degree turns "at speed" :-D

Seriously...after a short period of "adjustment" I haven't found the narrowness of the bars to be a factor for TT handling...even for the 180 deg turnarounds.

I'm not sure my bike handling skill would allow that. It looks slick.
I'll have to go with my HED 40cm bars with some new S bends and that same brake set up.

Maybe I need to remeasure. They are pretty damned narrow. I bought the bike used and they were on it.
