Gray Disc Wheel

What would make a wheel only Shimano 10-speed compatible? I'm currently running Shimano 9-speed dura ace. Excuse my ignorance, but is it possible to convert the wheel to use on my 9-speed gruppo?

I know the Gray disc they have on the floor in the store is a rebadged Zipp. Didn't know Gray went elsewhere to get the discs or are making their own. I'd think if it was 10spd compatible it should be 9 and 8spd compatible.

If it has a Shimano 10 speed freehub it's not backward compatible to 8 or 9 speed. You don't see many of these, and the 8/9 speed freehubs are forward compatible to 10 speed. Most companies that used the 10 speed freehubs only did so for a while and have subsequently reverted to the 8/9 ones as they work for everything

what ckautz said. there are a few "climbing specific" wheels at the local shop and the hub is ONLY 10 speed compatible. when i asked why the owner said, "bad business decision". if i'm not mistaken, the 10 speed hub is narrower than the 8/9 hub which is why those cassettes will not work.

Does anyone ride this disc? Specifically the carbon clincher version?

If you wanted to use it badly enough you could revert to "friction" mode and use it like that with your 9 speed shifters.
Of course you'd still need a 10 speed cassette.
