If 1 wetsuit is good, is 2 better? Can't Post

Going through my gear the other day made me think of an idea. I have 2 wetsuits, one sleeveless and a full. Would it be worth wearing both of them for extra buoyancy during an IM swim? I wouldnt do it for anything shorter than IM but it seems like the extra buoyancy would be well worth it. It would obviously take longer to get out of but it would be the same as comparing 1 with the time you save. I swim just under an hour so I dont know if it would help as much as say someone that swims 2 hours but its just an idea that came into my head. I figure Ive got the gear I might as well use it. Any thoughts? Is there a rule against this?

I have a mental image of the Michelin Man. I find it enough of a pain in the ass to put on one wetsuit. Putting on that second wetsuit sounds tough, have you tried it? Might be just the thing for cruising through the skim ice.

I agree, half the effort of an IM is just getting into the wetsuit. I haven't tried it yet. That is a great idea though since ice out where I live is about the end of April/early May. I could see where I would look like a Michelin Man but I don't think it would be too bad since my sleeveless is very tight and makes me look about 25lbs lighter than I am

Putting on 2 wetsuits sounds more difficult than learning to swim.

Try it out!

I don't know how easy it will be to get in!

Consider buying the Desoto suit?

Desoto is a good idea but I already have 2 suits, I don't need another.

Why stop at 2?

Good question. Maybe with enough wetsuits on I could hover over the water I have so much buoyancy.

Why even flot on top of the water with 2 wetsuits, fill the gap between the wetsuits with helium!

Try it and let us know how it works swimming, and trying to get off fast.

With all this hoopla about the Water Rover, I thought it be fun to experiment with my variety of wetsuits. I put on my spring suit (sleeveless/above the knee cut) under my full for one of my training swims. It was fairly easy to put on and actually easy to take of. It did seem to take less effort to swim our regular ocean swim, but I never time them, so don't know if it was faster. I think I'll do this for a lot of our winter ocean swims for sure, as it is definitely warmer. But I'll stick to a single wetsuit for races.

Hey! wonderful idea...
I have TWO pairs of running shoes: would it be a good idea to wear them both? Maybe I can be as twice as fast on the run:)

There was a video..I think on trisports website...about the water rover and the question came up...why not two wetsuits?? (http://www.trisports.com/desoto-waterrover.html).. Emilio said that water can get trapped between the two suits and cause extra weight or something...check it out

In an uncontrolled study last summer, I wore the legs of an old 6mm wetsuit under my new Blue Seventy Helix for three lake swim workouts. Next, I cut the top of the legs off, and added only the lower legs. There was no time savings either way. I was actually slower with the extra legs. Thicker suits make me feel constricted and less efficient, but I would like to repeat the test again. Is there any comprehensive testing on wetsuit thickness related to swimming speed? Are you going to test your theory?

My take is that officials could consider extra legs an illegal flotation device unless they were attached to, thus considered part of the wetsuit.

Two questions.... why would you think kicking restriction would make hardly any difference in a triathlon. Second, why would you think that you would be any faster with extra flotation in your LOWER legs??
