If a 122 Pound woman can handle a front Zipp 404 in Hawaii, Can I (177 pounds) handle a Zipp 808?

Hello. I get my slot for Hawaii in Lanzarote (40 kps/hour wind) and didnīt get problems using a 1080 rear wheel and 404 front wheel. Iīm thinking in using a 808 front wheel in Hawaii World Championship. Is it a madness?

no. A good friend used 808's last year and was fine. He tipped the scales at about 165 on race day.

pardon the ignorance.. What are the "specs" in regards to your weight and which rims you choose to use? I never knew there was a direct correlation between weight and depth of a rim? Please educate me as I am looking to get race rims before my first 1/2 IM. Thanks in advance. Monty

I think is most important the skill in handling the bike but weight (and strength) is important. What is easiest for the wind? To knok down Evander Hoylifield or Nastia Liukin?

I weight 167 lbs and I'm 6'4. Uses 1080 and disc in heavy wind without problem. However I have when spinning out of gears had some moments when I didn't felt safe in heavy cross winds. Maybe I have good bike skills I don't know, but I do bike a lot (around 15000km/year.) hard to say.
When I raced hawaii I used Xentis which arn't that deep, but four-spokes. I only had problems spinning approx 115 cadence down hawi one day (not race day), which was the day with strongest winds, when I was there in 2006. The problems was that I didn't felt safe and choosed to slow down. But with 115 cadence and 54/12 you are going quite fast too, which for me doesn't feel safe since I'm not used to hills, not even small hills like hawi.. Biggest climb on a 20km radius from where I live is 70m...

I need to become the spokesperson of reasoning.....although my sarcasm might get in the way.
Does the advantage of the 808 outweigh the negatives?
While I'm sure you can "handle" it, I think the larger question is whether you should use it.

It is definitely a madness. Sanity would be going out next time it is windy and trying both wheels.
