Looking for Core/Strength Program
Can't Post
I'm looking to use this off-season to get more serious about a solid core/strength program. I know it's not rocket science but I'm hoping someone can direct me to or provide a good solid core/strenght program. I am aware of PX90 and am considering that as an option but am not convinced that's my best option.
Thanks.

I just got the Runners' Core DVD and am planning on using it this winter. I have a friend doing p-90x, so it will be interesting to see how we both do this winter.

Consider PowerCranks. Can be used both for core strengthening (using specific drills) and for improving core endurance, something that no other tool or program, that I am aware of, addresses.

To be a top ten finisher in the Ironman World Championships with a time of 16:30 or so is easy. . . as long as do the first one.

Here's a really good core routine I follow using a medicine ball.
I also add in planks.

that looks like a really good program! why do you add the planks? not enough oblique work from the program?
I also like to do some glute work as mine are horribly weak. I'll do side steps and clams [with resistance bands*] and step ups -to- high knees [i know that doesn't make sense, but I don't know the name of it]

I add planks because it mimics your position while your in the extensions on the bike.

I am a Chiropractor specializing in Sports injuries. I have worked with everyone from 9-hour IMers to age group Sprinters. The best workout is in a book called Core Performance for Endurance Athletes, by Mark Verstegen. If you do everything in the book (NOT just the strength components), I would expect a huge improvement in all realms of your training.
It requires you to buy a physioball, a foam roller, and a couple other little pieces. Less than $100 in all. I have reviewed over 150 books with similar titles and claims, but this is THE best!
Good luck.

Hello,
There are lots of good programs out there. I use Cycle-Core are really like it. I feel like I get a good workout in a short amount of time. My typical morning core workout week is M,W, F
Monday: 20 Min Rowing on Erg followed By Cylco-Core Abs
Wednesday: 20 Min Rowing on Erg followed By Cylco-Core Body Weight Conditioning.
Friday:20 Min Rowing on Erg followed By Cylco-Core resistance training.
My friend uses P90X and really likes it. For me, I like doing a 20 min cross cardio workout (i,e Rowing) followed by the core work.

There is also now a companion DVD available through their website that is thorough and well organized. I found it helpful.
Jessi S doing the demonstrations didn't hurt either!

Yeah, it's a great bike but the engine needs work.

x2 - easy to follow, repeatable, effective
Core Performance for Triathletes - None of the above (can't have the the third w/o the first two).
No wonder they made a video.

Rather than bouncing around on a swiss ball or doing some other lame workout that robs you of your manhood and makes you look like a jackass, try the basic workout above. If you can front squat and deadlift reasonable weights, your core will be plenty strong! Probably will not do anything for your triathlon racing though.
