New Trek TT Bike Can't Post

Looks like the geometry is steep... given the extreme rearward seatpost extension on LA bike.

This bike makes absolutely no esthetic sense.

Are those vertical drops? Even a bike with no seat tube does not use those.

Vertical dropouts are much easier to work with in a race to change a flat tire. Pro mechs. would be screaming bloody murder if they always had to dick with the chain to change a rear flat in a race. I hate rear facing dropouts personally.

Why do you have to "dick with the chain" when swapping a wheel in a frame with horizontal dropouts? I never touch the chain when I swap mine...

What is that little black thing on the non-drive side chain stay? Looks like an exit port for a cable, but it's on the wrong side of the bike... computer sensor built into the frame?

I wonder which one is his primary TT bike. He posted a pic of part of another one a few days ago and it was black...

It's nothing, don't worry about it, nothing to see here. Any putt-putt or varoom sounds you happen to hear are from the H3 or disc wheel, respectively.

Who needs PED's when you've got engine exhaust?

Re: New Trek TT Bike [Tom A.] [In reply to] Can't Post

i don't get this either, but then I never got highly adept at getting a wheel out with vertical dropouts

so switching to horizontal made no difference.

I think somebody posted a German bike that had an engine in it in the last year or so. Rappstar, maybe?

Flippers and a bike with an engine ought to get me under 2 hours for an Olympic Distance race. Looks good on paper.

Could you make a short one minute YouTube video showing us how you change out a wheel with horizontal dropouts without touching the chain?

Re: New Trek TT Bike [Daninjawg] [In reply to] Can't Post

The Trek TT and TTX both had vertical drops and the TTX was no slouch in the windtunnel. I would guess the bike is set up with just enough clearance to run narrow tires, after all its not going to be raced in Roubaix.
Bandwagon? Well if companies are pushing to lower drag from existing designs hidden brakes and integrated front ends are the way to do it so it makes sense we are seeing more of them.

No need...Gerard shot one a few years ago and put it up on the Cervelo site:

http://www.cervelo.com/...pany&i=Manuals#6

I do it slightly different though...I am usually from behind the bike and the key things are that your forefinger presses against the derailleur body (to make room for the skewer to get past) while your thumb pushes on the tab on the pulley cage (to create slack in the chain).

Here are the steps:
1. Loosen skewer and pull wheel backwards while pushing with right thumb on the pulley cage "tab" until the axle is out of the dropouts and then allow the axle to drop below the dropouts.
2. Push on the derailleur body with your forefinger until there's enough room to get the skewer nut past it.
3. Move the wheel forward and down just as you would any other wheel.

Just reverse course for wheel installation :-)

I think horiz makes more sense on the open market where the mfr has no control over what range of wheel/tire combos the riders will end up using, so the ability to adjust is more useful, but a pro team should be able to have it optimized more consistently working closely with their particular wheel/tire sponsors.

what is that "knob" in the center of the bars looks like it's coming off the stem? Is it a computer mount?

I'm fairly certain that's where the extensions attach...that's why there's shift cable housing coming out of it.
