New method for rapid healing of tendonitis Can't Post

Interesting article in the Globe & Mail today about a new method for rapidly healing tendonitis by injecting a patient's own blood plasma:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/...lood/article1351339/

The doctor says that it is most promising for treating chronic ailments among recreational (ie non-professional athletes).

“Many controlled clinical trials are under way, but clinical use should be approached cautiously until high-level evidence supporting platelet-rich plasma efficacy is available,” the authors wrote.

I'm always up for having other people experiment on their bodies before mine.

A friend tried that for a hip injury. She's been quiet lately so I don't know how it worked. But if the technology has reached an island off the coast of Maine...

I've got a hip injury and would try just about anything to make it go away. But I always faint when I get blood taken... do you think that would be a problem?

Depends on what it is used for. I've become much more selective with patient's/pathologies now. I will say, it is much LESS effective than the company (previously Symphony, now Harvest tech) states or what paid surgeons will say - at least in my experience.

But, I've yet to have a single "side effect" from the procedure. Well, except wanting to do this for a Jehova's Witness patient - a no go :)

I'd happily volunteer for clinical trials. This extended healing period is driving me insane.

Didn't WADA just ban this for this year?

Not sure if PRP/procedure itself has been put on the prohibited list, but most of the time, a TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemption) would easily be issued with it since you would be treating an injury.

edit: just looked it up -

Platelet-derived preparations (e.g. Platelet Rich Plasma, “blood
spinning”) administered by intramuscular route. Other routes of
administration require a declaration of Use in accordance with the
International Standard for Therapeutic Use Exemptions.
and other substances with similar chemical structure or similar biological
effect(s).
