New product information: Chocolate #9 Energy Gel Can't Post

The only certified low glycemic index energy gel was introduced to the market this year at interbike and it seems to be shaking things up a bit - and setting records.

The Nitty-Gritty:
Chocolate #9 contains two simple ingredients: Organic Agave, & Cocoa - no nasty preservatives no mystery ingredients or added caffein. The product is vegan, absolutely delicious (if you enjoy dark chocolate), and will never cause associated blood sugar crashes (certified low G.I.). More information can be found @ http://www.chocolateenergygel.com

The theory behind Chocolate #9, is that by avoiding the repetitive yo-yoing spike-crash effect of high glycemic sweeteners, (not to mention toxic preservatives), the body is simply in better condition to finish strong.

What do you think?

Chocolate #9 was used by Team Type 1 this year, and fueled the guys in their record setting finish in the 8 man division of Race Across America. Team Type 1 and Chocolate #9 were quick to partner back up for the 2010 season. It looks like there must be something to it. http://www.chocolateenergygel.com has several other stories on athlete's shattering records using this wholesome energy supplement.

Has anyone out there tried this product and would care to give some feedback?

First post is "asking" about a product.

I give you a 2.0 out of 10 on the Spam-o-meter.

You lost points for that needless dead end hyperlink at the end.

Why the heck would anyone want a low glycemic index energy gel?

The energy is why we use them. I see no need for your product among endurance athletes.

Heh...i feel hot water. The low glycemic index gel still has all the calories and carbs (the energy), they just don't rush into your system, leaving you on empty shortly after. You experience much the same effect. This gel delivers steady paced energy.

Re: Most effective energy gel ever? [chocoholic] [In reply to] Can't Post

But that is the point, it needs to rush into your system. If it doesn't then it will sit in my stomach while I'm working out or racing and that's a problem. Also, what good is a gel that won't get you past a bonk cuz it works slowly?

If it won't go into your system quickly then what are you going to use for energy? What you have stored? Then why would we need your gel? A gel is to supplement our energy stores.

I want a 100 calorie gel to work right now for the exercise I'm doing right now. I want it to go to work for me right away so I can use it. If I need more I'll eat another one that way I'll have 200 calories in my system instead of waiting for your 100 calories to work. I don't have to worry about a crash cuz I'm carrying enough to get me through the race or workout.

When I get home, guess what I'm going to do? I'm going to eat real food to replace what I used.

Gels that don't rush into your system, that is such a load of crap.

Your vision is so narrow, you elitist jerk.

When you're running a 7:00 marathon you can't have all those
calories rush in at once or by mile 10 you'll be a mess.

Sheesh.

Re: Most effective energy gel ever? [chocoholic] [In reply to] Can't Post

You are new here, and have an obvious bias towards this product. Just a word of caution here, people are not stupid on this forum, at least most of them(LV room excluded, just kidding guys). I have no idea about how good this product is, but I love the idea of anything that is chocolate, but you have done this gel a disservice with your first post. You have turned off most of the readers, and they no have a bias against your product. Before you get in too deep to where you cannot return here, I have a few suggestions;

1. Do not come on and tell folks that there is some high and low sugar rush during a race. For some maybe, but most people here have used all kinds of gels, cokes, snickers, ect, over the years, and no problems. I remember these studies from over 30 years ago, and they are always done on sedatiry folks sitting in a lounge chair. This is not the audience here. And I would not bad mouth caffine either, probably 95% of triathletes use it in one form or another. It's ok not to have it, just do not make it out to be some evil thing. Pretty much have been proven to help endurance athletes since the 1950's.

2. Don't pretend that you are not with the company, it is painfully obvious you either work for them, or even the owner. That inuslts us.

3. If you really believe in your product, talk to Dan and do one of his consumer trials here. He is doing lots of those now, and it is the best and most honest way to get your product out there, and the positive response is legit afterwards. People will then take you seriously. You approach may work elsewhere, but not here, so tone it down a bit. IF it is a great product like you say, it will sell like hot cakes here, there are nearly 200,000 eyeballs on this site every month.

Like I said, I love chocolate and welcome any new product that can get me close to a hershey kiss. The best gels in the world are no good if you do not like the taste, and then avoid them during the race. Good luck with your product....

Elitist jerk...I don't think so?

Would you care to explain why anyone here would need a low glycemic index energy gel?

Someone running a 7:00 marathon would take in the amount of calories needed for their run. It wouldn't matter if it's high glycemic or low because the person is exercising.

count me in for the product trial....I'm looking for an alternative to the jersey pocket full of Hershey kisses I normally carry on my long rides. (I'm only half kidding.) ;-)

My favorite gel is Gu chocolate outrage. Does it taste better than that? If so, well, I would have to try it for sure.

Re: Most effective energy gel ever? [chocoholic] [In reply to] Can't Post

I just see this as another gel taking to the market trying to offer something different but really being the same. 'Cerftified low GI' by whom? There are other gels out there without simple sugars using only complex sugars that would qualify equally as well.

And as noted the merits and demerits of low GI and high GI gels has been discussed frequently.

Too much choice :-)

By all means have a plan, but the best plan is to have a plan to change the plan.

Re: Most effective energy gel ever? [chocoholic] [In reply to] Can't Post

No problem, look foreward to trying out your product. There are very few companies that are allowed to advertise here on the fourm, and they have been around forever, and almost always post "blatant ad" before any post in their titles. And they have been around for twenty years sevring the triathlon market, and even then they ocasionally catch some shit. Do the trial with Dan, buy an actual ad, and let us discuss the product here afterwards without any bias, because we feel we were spamed by a new company, who just jumped on here today...Like I said, gels are very individual to most folks, but if your chocolate is as good as you say it is, that will cover lots of people here. And I will make a prediction right now too. If I love it, then you will be making a "Monty gel" with caffine, sodium, and some magnesium, and we will both get rich...(-;

all my favorite gels are cholocate. gu and clif both make great chocolate gels, and i have no use for strawberry, mango, tutti frutti, lemon surprise, or any of the rest. i can't say it better than thomas paine: "give me chocolate or give me death; better yet, give me chocolate death."

i happen to have some chocolate #9 at the compound, and it's maybe my favorite of the bunch. now that you're "welcomed" to the forum, we'll get a trial going pretty quickly.
