between the aero bars
behind the seat
and one on the frame however the test team is doing it

i sear people imagine the most interesting problems when they can't afford something =)

I'm just going to admit im jealous i can't afford the p4, or specialized shiv, or new trek

=)

Where would you put the regular bottle? If I remember right you can't mount a regular bottle cage to the frame. I don't remember seeing any threaded inserts.

I believe my local shop was given the "honor" of 18 of them. 6 have sold. I would hardly say that qualifies as a success. Considering the 2010 model is 3-4 months away - I think they are going to have to discount them.

Not sure if it is the economy or the underwhelming nature of the bike.

I do not think that anyone can argue that the reception of the P3C had much more fanfare and much longer waits for the consumer. P4 can be purchased almost anywhere online - Today.

Re: P4 flop? It's the color... [mcevt] [In reply to] Can't Post

that may make sense since they don't even have all the sizes out yet. In addition, everyone is assuming they know what cervelo considers a success for this bike. Its not a 1000 dollar bike.

This would be equivalent to ferrari only selling 300 of a particular model, no one at ferrari calls its failure because they didn't sell 1000 of them. But whatever, this is just another pointless cervelo sucks thread.

Re: P4 flop? It's the color... [agner1] [In reply to] Can't Post

I dunno. To a certain extent, Cervelo is competing with itself. I am not a Cervelo groupie and never got into the P3C, but, IMO, the P3C is still one of if not the best TT frame out there. Aero, quality, solid, and (except for the paint job) sexy. So, it seems like the P4's main competition is the P3C.

I do not have a Cervelo. The P4 peaks my interest, but, not too much. If I had a P3C, however, I would have no serious interest in the P4 (at this time).

Also, as others have mentioned, the economy sucks. We have 500 members in my Triathlon Team (www.triwisconsin.org). I ran a poll this year regarding bikes and race wheels. Although about 25% said they would love a new bike, only 10 people (not 10%, 10 people) said they were seriously considering a bike purchase this year.

They have framesets hanging. They have taken delivery of stock that they can not move. I think 56/54ish type sizes would be the vast majority of people who buy the bike. Maybe I am ignorant to the intricacies of bike retail but is that not why they make 54 and 56 first?

A product that was eagerly anticipated for 2+ years should not be hanging in bike shops and in online warehouses. That appears to be the case.

Root cause = Bad economy or underwhelming product - that is the debate. Clearly people are having a hard time selling the P4 (54/56 at least).

Either way, I'm pretty sure it's not the color.

Good Lord, it's like Goundhog Day. Every couple weeks another identical thread on the P4 flopping pops up saying the same thing. Hate the color, hate the look, how can I possibly figure out how to race without the standard waterbottle, and - Good Lord in Heaven - THE TEST TEAM ISN'T RIDING THEM YET...Is there ever a point where flogging this dead horse gets old? We get it, a lot of you hate Cervelo and create reasons for ripping it. P2/P3 is their workhorse and you'll always see way more of them and they'll sell more. P4 is for a very elite and specific niche. Not that tough to figure out and is and will be a huge success for them. Thank God the Tour starts tomorrow and they'll all be riding their P4's so at least that tired refrain can be put to bed. OK, done venting. On with the regularly scheduled "C" bashing

The problem with your argument is that THE BIKE IS NOT SOLD OUT!!!

I don't know where people are getting this. You can walk into Gear West and walk out with a P4 today.

As other posters have indicated, this is true at retailers across the country.

Stop saying the damn this is sold out. It isn't.

You can order it online at R&A Cycles. Available in: 48, 51, 54, 56, 58, 61.

Also, all3sports. Avaliable in: 48, 51, 54, 56, 58, 61.

Re: P4 flop? It's the color... [agner1] [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't know if it's a "flop" yet, but if it ends up not being successful, it's because of the "Integrated" water-bottle. Supposedly, it is the waterbottle that makes the frame more aero. However, people lose/misplace water bottles all the time the same way they lose expensive sunglasses, cell phones, etc.

If the P4 waterbottle is lost or misplaced, your slick new P4 is no better than my 2006 P3C. The "Aero Advantage" of a very expensive bike becomes lost because it's 'aero-ness" is tied to a $12 waterbottle. The only way to overcome this 'flaw' is to sell the P4 with 3 backup waterbottles and a lifetime replacement/guarantee should a waterbottle be lost or stolen.

Awaiting my appointment as the new P4 marketing manager.......

Re: P4 flop? It's the color... [agner1] [In reply to] Can't Post

It's the integrated water bottle design that is problematic, not the color.

It looks ridiculous and presents a variety of practical problems for the majority of serious triathletes who've already figured out a hydration scheme that isn't that.

I like Cervelo bikes and own an R3 road bike that I love, but I've never heard someone (other than on Slowtwitch) say that they would like to own a P4. When P3C came out, everyone seemed to want one.

it is faster than a p3c even without that water bottle.

If nothing else, Cervelo's timing is poor, though through no fault of their own. Between the economy and the fact that Trek, Specialized, Felt, and Scott all have whiz-bang new TT bikes in the pipeline--all (presumably in the case of Felt) with the next-gen integrated bar setups--it seems unlikely that the P4 will find the same success the P3 did. The P4 might end up as the last superbike with non-integrated bars, and its sales could suffer since the new designs are *perceived* to be faster.

I don't know if this is only me who feels in this way, but if P4 is not as popular as it was anticipated, it is the color..... Does anyone feel the same?

Slight threadjack,
Does anyone have any thoughts as to how the other big bike release is doing- The CD0.01 by QR?
I think it may be the economy, the market for the ultra expensive bikes is really small right now.

I for one think it's their best colour scheme of all their carbon TT bikes ever.

Agreed.

Not that this really matters but I have always been a big fan of neutral coloured bikes - all black, all white or even all grey/silver.

------------------------------------------

x3. I have an Argon road bike and I wanted the charcoal black model when buying, but it was unavailable.

My opinion: The bike looks like cheating. I'm skeptical when a bike has to go through a debated process to be approved by UCI. Not to mention I think it not worth of the extra $$$

Apparently one will need to modify their $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ bike with an extra hole in an aftermarket bottle cage and an aluminium plate. Oh, and some shims for the seatpost as it's not 3:1. Eeeek
