Parking a 28FT RV near IMMOO Transition Can't Post

Me and 2 other IM veterans/buddies are trekking from central NJ to Madsion in a 28ft class C RV leaving 9/3. Yes we are racing. We have a site reserved at Madison KOA supposedly 9 miles from downtown. Trying to determine if there is parking lot close to transition that we can park in Sat night so we don't have to drive in the morning. Our preference would be to roll out of the thing and into lake in the morning.

I am still second guessing our mode of transportation however the You tube footage we will capture should be more than enough to give our wives, collectively 8 kids, 3 dogs and our training partners enough ammo for years to come to remind us how really stupid we were. I foresee one of those "priceless" commercials coming out of this.

Any advice is appreciated.

If I were you, I'd call http://www.machineryrowbicycles.com/ and make VERY good friends with management and ask to park in their lot.

Otherwise, you're basically SOL as everything else in on "the hill" or commercial. There are some lots around, but figure the mim wage worker isn't going to make an executive decision to allow you to park.

I think they still run a shuttle bus from the Alliant Energy Center on race morning. You could probably park there as long as there isn't an event going on. There's not much space downtown.

Bag the KOA. You'll have to drive right through town to get to the Monona Terrace. As Madison is built on an isthmus that can be a pain. There is a very nice Dane County campground at Lake Farm Park http://www.co.dane.wi.us/lwrd/parks/parklist.asp Typically quiet, well maintained facilities, showers etc... The park is on the Capital City Bike Trail a couple of miles from the Monona Terrace. There is also a section of road called E. Wilson Street where one can get away with parking their RV near downtown but I wouldn't recommend it for a peaceful night's sleep. The other option is UW Lot 60 behind the hospital. You'd want to call the UWPD and get permission first.

Good luck.

Not trying to Hi jack...but do you have a recommendation on where to ride (bike) from Johnson Street (Doubletree)...I thought if I rode over to the UW Arboretum that would be cool. I don't want to go out to the IM Loop...

What kind of ride? 5-10 miles to keep the legs loose before you race, or 50miler while you're in town spectating?

ditto on the recomendation for the county park. Only downside is the mosquitoes.

I would check UW parking department for requirements on the lots. Weekend parking used to be pretty lax, but on a "big weekend" they might be more diligent about ticketing.

Try the Paoli Loop. Here's a link: http://www.mapmyride.com/...wi/madison/571556732 If the link doesn't work go to Mapmyride.com , rides in Madison, find "Paoli loop" , It's a nice 30 mile loop with pretty good roads. I like it as a final spin/equipment check ride. It's an easy ride with good enough roads that you don't have to worry too much about flatting your race wheel and there are enough hills to make sure everything is shifting right under load.

I bet you'd be okay in the parking lot at Olin Park. They have the long parking spots for boat trailers. It's about a mile closer than the Alliant lot, leaving you less than a mile from Monona Terrace.

That parking lot also intersects the bike path that leads to the Arboretum.

If you want an easy relaxed ride, do the Capital City Trail loop. 18 mile of path. You can catch it along Lake Monona's lake front - it heads out to Lake Farms Park (mentioned above), heads out to Fitchburg through the woods and then comes back to town as the Southwest Commuter Bike Path.

If you want something longer with hills, etc, just ask.

Try UW Parking at (608) 263-6666. I think Lot 91 may be available for RV parking – maybe 8-9 blocks from transition. Might be best if you tell them you’re coming to the football game on Saturday and need parking before, during, after. Post football Saturday night may be noisy. http://www2.fpm.wisc.edu/...ntParking.htm[font "Arial"]

CORRECTION - UW Parking says that overnight parking of all “over-sized” vehicles is prohibited on the UW Campus. Sorry

If considering Olin Park check with parks/police - park closes at 10am and is patrolled at night. Opens at 4am http://www.cityofmadison.com/...jor/olin.html[font "Arial"]
