Pure Power Mouthguard....... Can't Post

While watching the Saints game the other night the commentators mentioned the mouthguard that the Saints were wearing.
At first I thought they were joking when they mentioned that it helped the Saints with their range of motion, power and flexibility. However they did mention that it was not a joke and said in their view it actually works.

Has anyone heard of this? Would it be of any use to triathletes? Sure sounds crazy.

Pure power mouthguard + Dr Halls liquid oxygen = no further need to train .... just too powerful for ones own body to control ;-)

Definitely sounds ridiculous to me.

If anything I'd say the benefits are coming from a placebo type effect in that these mouth guards are just more comfortable and due to that the athlete doesn't notice them being present. However these guys are at this level and any athlete at the pro level knows how to focus and ignore everything but the action of the moment.

I heard an advertisement for it on the radio a few weeks ago. I recall hearing something about it improving balance and power in the golf swing. My hunch is that it probably works about as well as magnets in the shoes.

I guess the Oakland Raiders must have their mouthguards on backwards.

Maybe that's their problem. The Raaaiders of the mid-70's would have never worn mouth-guards.

Only somewhat related. In my yoga class, my instructor is always talking about "finding the ease in difficult movements." She stresses relaxing muscles that we tend to unnecessarily tense, the jaw being a big one. The idea is to conserve energy and focus on what matters. It is something I think about while running or on the bike. If I am climbing a long hill, I find it helpful to try to focus on relaxing my jaw and other non-essential muscles. It seems to help?

$595 for the low end one. I'll stick to compression socks for now I guess.

"We have in hand results of a research study performed by a reputable US College with funding from us that compared the results of a traditionally-fitted custom mouthguard with a PPM™."

I think I won't hold my breath waiting for that.
