Saris Cycle On Vs Thelma
Can't Post
I'm putting a hitch mounted rack on my 2010 Subaru Outback. I can't decide between these two. I've read the Cycle On can sag down on some cars and possible scrape the ground on inclines. It seems sturdier and easier to use though (although more expnesive). Anybody with any experience with these racks who can offer some advice? Thanks

I have 2 bike Thelma which I really like. The only issues I have found is that the plastic wheel housing rubs the bottom of the downtube on my wife's 51cm frame. There is not enough space between the front wheel and the frame. The other issue is that the wheel straps are not long enough for an 808 wheel and a disc becomes an issue. I carry my race wheels in bags so not a big deal.

I had one of the first Thelma's and it did not work for my wife's bike with 650 wheels. The bike "sat" on the top of wheel holder. I seem to also remember that it didn't work for my mountain bike, although I can't remember the specific issue. It's possible they have made some improvements since then.
I swapped it for the Cycle On and couldn't be happier. I take the rack off when I don't use it, so I love the tool-less removal. It's super quick to load and unload, and has worked with every configuration of bike, from kids to mountain to tri bike.
It does stick out farther then other racks, and I have scrapped the knob on the back that tightens the rack, but you just have to be careful and it shouldn't be a problem. It also tends to wobble a little more then racks with a pin that is screwed in, but not to the point of creating any issues.
The Yakima is a good alternative as it's a little more compact, and well made, but I'd get the Saris again just for the quick on and off the car.

I have the Cycle On and love it. Would not trade it for anything! Before I made the purchase I took my Felt DA to the LBS to try the Thelma, as that was the one I was going to purchase. The Thelma would no work with that frame because of the way the wheel cover comes up on the front wheel. So if you have a very aero frame like a Felt DA you might want to check to make sure the Thelma will work before you purchase. No such issues with the Cycle On.
