I know Lewy Boulet is a naturalized American citizen. She was on the US Beijing Olympic team last year.

What about the guys? Americans finish 1st and 4th. Can't remember that last time that happened at NYC. Meb's career is now complete.

Yes, it's fantastic. But the men's race has its own thread.

Should this not be in the women's forum?

Why? Is there not a women's forum to talk about female things, and a forum to talk about male things? :o)

Outstanding. 10 min. behind the woman with the WR, not bad for a "non-runner." Not an easy course either, the winning times always are a good 5-10 min. off Chicago and London pace. I also read that she didn't even focus on this race until summer. Magdalena is pretty awesome too.

That's awesome. I wonder if any of the currently active male triathletes have run faster than that?

Re: Spoiler...Desiree Ficker at NYC Marathon [jackmott] [In reply to] Can't Post

dude, I love Desiree but she ran 2:39.... in cool, cool weather... it won't be long before Chrissie and Mirinda are running 2:39 off the bike... at Kona.

however, your statement is still correct... if she gets back into triathlon seriously she should be a force to be reckoned with.

Re: Spoiler...Desiree Ficker at NYC Marathon [sevans] [In reply to] Can't Post

which is more likely: a 2:39 open marathon girl running with Chrissie and Mirinda off the bike at Kona or Chrissie and Mirinda, and/or the next generation of girls improving 15 minutes off the bike at Kona. Both are unlikely as hell, but if I had to bet I'd put my money on Chrissie and Mirinda.

My comment was outlandish because Jackmott's comment was outlandish.

The normal conversion at this level from stand-alone marathon to IM run, with a whole bunch of assumptions and a wack of variables all going in the right direction, is about 20 minutes. So this would equate to about a 3:00 IM run. Which is great, but note that the key words above are, "a whole bunch of assumptions and a wack of variables all going in the right direction". No question this is an impressive performance for Ficker. Kudos to her for having a go at it again at this level of competition on this stage in a single sport - it's a bit of a rarity these days for elite level triathletes. How it translates to how she will perform in 70.3 and IM races in the future is hard to know?

I think her 1:14 half marathon and 34 min 10K from earlier this year, are actually more impressive, but many triathletes are obsessed with the marathon, so that is the performance that everyone will fixate on.

Dave Scott told me a few years ago that he thought the run times at the elite level in IM racing were set to drop, but that has not happened. Dave & Co, were running 2:40 off the bike nearly 20 years ago and we have not seen any drops or breakthroughs since then. Same for the women - until Carfrae's run this year.

Flame away! :)

Running is not triathlon (the whole off the bike running thing).

I know a female runner in the high 2:30s who trains with Chrissie and beats her in running only.
Chrissie is VERY fast off the bike because that's what she trains for. Certainly she could get quicker as a pure runner (I wouldn't even rule out sub2:30), but not now as a triathlete.

(Btw, FWIW, I'd rate a 2:39 in NYC as a 2:36-2:37 on a flat course.)
