Stupid High Heels: Rant Can't Post

I have B2B IM next week.
Last night went to get a glass of water late at night. My wife left her high heels in the hallway and I got to somehow tread on the heel of one so it punched a hole in the arch of my foot. It is around the size of a quarter and the gouge of skin is about the same thickness as a quarter.
There is a small amount of bruising, the arch is a little tender but should recover by Saturday. I cut away the dead skin leaving a nice tender round mark that feels like an open blister. After rubbing alcohol on it this morning it is drying out ok. Lets just say the whole house heard about it at 2am....

Now HTFU and duct tape it….

High heels??? Is there more you might want to tell us about yourself? Kidding.
How about kicking a dumbbell in the dark? I've broken a toe at least once doing that. Usually that little toe that you rarely realize you use until you put on a pair of running shoes....

Hey, if there were some high heels laying in the hallway, followed by a blouse, skirt, bra and then underwear, in that order, maybe you shouldn't be complaining...

wink wink. nudge nudge.

I'm racing B2B (half) next week as well, and I totally busted up my pinky toe on the coffee table. Turned all purple and swelled up huge. Was 3 days ago, and I ran on it this morning for 6 miles, so I guess it's better. Freaky the kind of weird stuff that can happen right before a race. Last year I broke my 2nd toe 4 weeks before my first HIM.

Yep, my buddy said it’s not as fun if you don’t have a little adversity heading into it.

generally not recommended to put alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on a open wound, you'll impede the healing process. Just irrigate with water.

B2B full in a week for me as well. Car ran me off the road while driiving last night, which banged it up bad, but my right leg even worse! Does hobbling around count as "active recovery" or some sort of taper?

That's why your wife should wear the high heels to bed ;0)

I'm amazed at the perpetuity of the concept of putting gnarly-ass tap water into an open wound. While I agree w/avoiding putting toxins (hydrogen peroxide) onto the wound, I can't see how un-sterile water helps anything. Stuff grows in there. Even soapy water is suspect. If you ain't got the iodine or similar, just let your lovely blood flush it out to clean it as long as all material, organic or other, is out of it. Then apply sterile bandage.
On second thought, those high heels may have been somewhere significantly not-clean, you may need a tetanus shot after that sneak attack.

"gnarly-ass tap water"

Which third world country do you live in? Tap water is not going to infect your wound. Go look up some literature in the field of Emergency Medicine. You should irrigate liberally especially if it's a dirty wound.

And BTW, you described a superficial wound and you probably don't need a Tetanus shot. The organism that causes Tetanus is anaerobic and tends to infect deep wounds where oxygen can't get to (classically stepping on a rusty nail).
