Tell me about Walser frames... Can't Post

I'm fascinated by Walser frames but I don't know much about them. I've been looking at www.walser-cycles.ch and it looks like the only road models that aren't astronomically priced are the Model 5 and 6. Are these frames comparable aerodynamically to a P3C/TTX/DA? Are they comparable if you get the standard version, or only the narrow? If you get the narrow model, are you limited to only the narrow-axle wheels from Walser and Xentis? Are there any options for training wheels with the narrow frames?

Thanks for any help.

Does anyone have any experience with these frames?

You could try to é-mail cucuma, to answer your questions. They sell walser bikes under their brandname. website cucuma.com I think, or google it.
I don't think the bikes are that bad because a few good german pro's ride them with result.

Thanks, yeah, I'm planning to email Cucuma and Walser himself, but I thought I'd try to get some slightly more impartial points of view as well.

This is a great quote from the man who's probably built more re-badged protour bikes than anyone else: I have no favorites. The best shall win. Sport is not important enough for me to think about it too long.

yeah, except that if you ask him for data...

he replies - "you have seen the results from the pros, no? clearly it is a fast bike"

I suspect that the biggest part of his bike being fast is the 50mm bb and the 110mm rear wheel. without those aspects, I suspect it is probably fast, but perhaps not as fast as could be.

FWIW, last time I was really considering doing something like this, SRM told me *as a dealer* that they did in fact have available several DA SRMs made for 50mm bb for gerostiener available...

I saw Walser's interview with srm now too and think that you missed his point. He says to do his best together with the athletes by analysing every possible aspect of performance is most important to him. This is the challenge and the result itself is not the most significant for him. He did not say sport is not important.

All I can tell you is that my Austrian tri friends drool over Walser bikes - as mentioned already the bikes show results in races and they're hot... however, you need to own a CUSTOM-BUILT Walser to get the looks (over in Europe, not many people will recognize the bike here). It's definitely going to be a great bike even if you buy a pre-fab (and Walser will certainly be able to answer you tech questions) but personally, I'd wait to buy European products like Xentis and Walser until the dollar is back up. But, cool that you found him and I'll be impressed if you get one...

Easily my top no.1 frame, especially so if there are indeed SRMs out there that will fit the narrow bottom bracket! :D
