Well considering that my list of possible next locations after Turkey just came up I may be in for 2011. I have very few places after here: Korea, Okinawa Japan, and Abu Dhabi. I like the distance of the bike though, will be a big plus to my race. Should draw quite a few people since it will have prize money for AG.

2K/200K/20K ?

Lance was wrong. This one will be all about the bike.

Were the event organizers hanging out on the ST forum and seeing how obsessed people are with the bike leg here? :)

Kudos to them for coming up with something new and not being cookie cutter.

This is pretty cool to hear. I also like the idea of mixing it up a bit. There's also a Half - erm something distance at 1.5-100-10 for the rabbits. The organisers in Lisbon are on the same page and have changed their race from a HIM to a 1-100-10 event which is equally cool. Anyway, getting back to Abu Dhabi, I've been dreaming of one such event as this for a long time. It's relatively easy for us in the UK to get to and is a great destination. Unfortunately, I'll have to forgo it this year as I've already committed to going abroad and seeing my dad in Virginia (and doing the Kinetic Half) in May. I can't wait to hear some good race reports from this one!

Also, entry fee will be $150 for the longer race and $96 for the shorter one until the end of this year.

Will I have to wear a microfiber moisture wicking burka?

I am glad someone mentioned this.

Muslim middle-easten countries as a general rule, are not big on women( or men for that matter!! I do see Faris in a picture at the press conference!!) running around the streets with bikini bottoms and bra tops on.

That's the deal breaker for me. Also the cost of hotel will be too much for me. The entry fees are very low b/c they are making a ton from travel and lodging.

Nope. It is understood that triathletes have a skimpy race outfit. The Abu Dhabi triathlon team did all their team photos for the news papers etc in their race gear and not in khakis and polos.

My initial reaction is similar to Trigirlpink (I'm a woman too).

Additionally, no one forget the British tourists who were charged for public affection in Dubai - they can pretend that they are welcoming and a Western destination spot - however, they are a Muslim Country with "traditional" values - ie. women are chattels, not people.

Dubai is dangerous for women - just read about high profile female Comedienes who have travelled there and then found themselves virtually captive by Sheiks - beware any woman who does this race.

Is it just me - but if you do this race, the terrorists win ?

Uhhh, if I remember correctly, the british couple were banging each other on a public beach....this would get you arrested in any country.

..and your blanket statement about Dubai being dangerous for women is a bit much....have you been there or are you relying on advice from People magazine?

Are you for Fu(king real????

1. Dubai is an amazing place and NOT dangerous to women

2. Abu Dhabi is NOT Dubai.

3 Terrorists? Are you a complete MORON???? it's directly because of people like you that half the world is at war right now....

Calling all Arabs terrorists is like me suggesting that all Americans are obnoxious, racist, religious bigots who go around shooting each other whilst stuffing their fat faces with McDonalds........oh wait....

FINALLY a race with reasonable race distances.. ;-) Too bad it's in March and that it'll probably be 120 degrees out there.

Triathlon, at least on the pro side, needs stuff like this so I really hope it'll be a success.

I really had no idea and just assumed it was always a bit hotter out there than that. 17-28c doesen't sound too bad though.

I'm with you on that... a drunken shag on the beach kind of goes beyond the pale. Don't get too upset, there are many ignorant people out there who spout off half truths and the like without thinking. Let us not forget our good old friend Nick Griffin.. oh darn he's in the press again..... Anyway, we're talking about pretty modern places that have changed a huge amount over the last few decades. Dubai is awesome and a great place to hook up with local cyclists. Abu Dhabi is great too and is becoming an international destination for sport ; GP, Tennis, Triathlon (hell yeah). And like anywhere else respect local customs, have a good race, and party all night!

It's the UAE; they really don't care what foreign women wear. Dubai has hosted a open water world cup stop for years and will also have the 2010 short course world swimming championships.
