Tom Demerly - no way Can't Post

I surely thought that Tom Demerly would be the first guy on this forum to upload pictures and bike measurements.

But stunningly I beat him to the punch. Where is Tom? Is he actually busy at the bike shop?

Fiddlesticks! How do I do it...? I've been wailing away here on a bunch of web features for our own little site and doing my armchair commentary on the Olympics with you in the evening....

I know.... I'm lame.

Go to "view my profile" to the right of "messages" and upload away. It is quite straight forward.

It is quite straight forward.

Way too much detail for me. I set the seat height at 76.5cm on a 58cm road bike with something close to a 120mm stem, throw a leg over it and I am good to go! :)

You can admit to using the Cyrille Guimard formula Steve...

I left my bikes next to the computer all night and it didn't take a single measurement for me! Is there a macro I have to run or something??? ;-)

Khai,

Well good to know I am following one of the greats.

Funny thing was that I could not even find my bike in the Cervelo listing - The Eyre Road!! :)

It's funny (to me at least) that I posted that without thinking... When I started road cycling I used the Guimard formula as well - but nowadays I just do what you described. :p

I'll have to take a look, but I'd be pretty shocked if any of my bikes made the list as well.

When do you get in to town?

Not coming out for IMC. I am headed to Chicago for the Chicago Triathlon. Working in the Mission Bay booth at the Expo selling Nineteen wetsuits! :)

Possibly. I am built like Phelps - but can't swim like him :)

Very long torso and short legs, with longish arms on a 6'2" body. I have ridden on 56's and they just don't feel right. I have to have way to much seat set-back with a 130mm stem to get the distance I need on the top and I can't find that sweet spot over the BB.

Most 58 cm road bikes fit/feel better.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing. I run 76.5 and I ride a 54cm SLC-SL with a 120mm stem

What two of you, Superdave being the other, can't seem to figure out, is that the saddle height on a bicycle is about the least important measurement for picking the right size bicycle, reach and head tube height are the numbers you want to look at. Now maybe you guys are under the impression that all people have the same ratio of inseam to torso, that would explain your reasoning, but this isn't the case.
Something the two of you, Superdave being the other, need to think about, which obviously you didn't, what does his 58 cm bike measure? Is it seat tube CtC, seat tube CtT, is the top tube level or is it sloping, or is the measurement the top tube CtC. I don't know, Do you? No, the only thing you know is his seat height, which tells you very little.
You guys are making blanket statements that his bike is too big, when all you have his is saddle height, sounds a little ignorant to me. But then again, Superdave works at Felt.
