Re: Trainer vs Rollers [bryan913] [In reply to] Can't Post

I've used both over the years. I enjoy the rollers but kind of think the notion that they make you a better bike handler is a little oversold. If someone is a reel goon on the pedals, the rollers will help this, or a real "lock arm larry" but for a decent rider I doubt they make a huge deal.

I have had the very best luck using a trainer with an ergometer and a display of watts. I used a tacx flow for a number of seasons and lately a computrainer. I think the flow is fine and costs much less, the CT is a nice tool but awfully expensive and needs some serious updating

I have improved significantly from riding a trainer during the winter. I do 3 workouts indoors of either tempo or long intervals and ride outside the rest of the time, it helps a lot.

I'll agree with the trainer being easier than the rollers. Its a lot easier to do long workouts, and I've found it a lot more comfortable since I can be a little bit of a goon and not worry about falling over. Another bonus with the trainer is that you can keep the remote nearby and change the channel during commercials!
