Tri-Shoes
Can't Post
I've been running tri's in my road shoes for over a year now and I think I'm going to give a "tri specific" shoe a chance...hopefully go sockless. I go sockless in my spin shoes and have occasionally done it in my road shoes.
I searched this forum and the shoe of choice seems to be the Shimano TR-50. I, personally, like the Addidas Adistar Tri Carbon but I saw some older posts here that questioned their durability. Finally, I am looking at the Northwave Tribal Carbon which I will have to order online as no one in ATL seems to carry them.
Suggestions and testimonials appreciated...espcially concerning the less popular of the three (Adidas and NW).
TIA.
D

Wow..those look cool (literally)...because "hotfoot" has bothered me more than once. Now if I can just find a place that will ship them to me...found a couple of places that carry them but won't ship. Does Specialized have some kind of "no ship" policy??

Yes, Specialized seems to have a no ship on online orders policy. Many places that carry them allow you place order online as long as you pick them up. This, of course, doesn't help people where shops don't stock them (having a devil of a time finding a place in the Bay Area that stocks them). I'm actually considering buying them from a shop in Europe as the prices are the same and the shipping pretty reasonable. I heard too, though it's not confirmed at all that the LG Carbon Tri Air is the same last as the Trivents.
P.S. Specialized's online store will of course ship them, but they are currently out of many sizes and backordered.

I love my Nike Tri shoes. The black and silver model that sell on Ebay for $80. I picked them up locally for 1/2 off.
As far as buying shoes w/o trying them on, I would not do it. I wear a 44 in the Nike's, a 44.5 in the Tri Vents, and couldn't get the Shimano's to fit very well. Two times I've tried ordering shoes that I had not worn before, and i had to send them back.

Just bought the TR-50 and love them. It appears they run ~ 1/2 size small. If you are going from a non-carbon shoe to this shoe like me you will notice a huge difference.

I personally like the Lake tri shoes - very very comfortable sockless, and they're well ventilated. No issues with durability.

Go with the more popular (they are popular for a reason) - spend the extra $$ you will not regret it.

Does anyone own the Sidi Carbon T2.6, just wonder if they are worth the extra money or if the Sidi T2 are just as good?

unless things have changed in the last couple of years, these are completely different fitting shoes. I bought the LG's a couple of years ago and my foot was swimming in them. The toe box was very wide. I went with the tri-vents and would be very hard pressed to change to anything else. Maybe you need a wider toe box, but the trivents and the LG's are not the same fit.
I liked the trivents so much, I bought the road version, and love those as well. Maybe more than my OLD SIDI genius shoes. The soles had gotten noticeably flexible compared to the carbon soles.
for my $0.02 - trivents

I *finally* got out of my cheap-o Northwaves (not a slam against the company...these just were the cheap-o shoes of their line) & just got a pair of Specialized Tri-Vents. Not many miles on them yet, but I'm VERY pleased with them.
I tried on Sidis, Looks, and LGs in my LBS, but none of them felt as comfortable as the Specialized just walking around in them in the store (I know that actually riding in them is something different). Your mileage may very.
Hope this helps!

I am a newbie (just started biking this year and just did my first tri), but based on a significant bit of research combined with what was available locally, I decided to go with the Specialized Tri Vent. I normally wear a size 13 running shoe (rarely a size 12), and I ended up getting the size 46 Tri-vent (I also tried on the 47, but it was a bit loose so that my heel would slip out easily).
I am very happy with the comfort of the shoe--both with and without socks.

Another vote for Tri-vents. The best fitting/feeling pair of shoes I've had is the Carnac quartz. Just not very tri-specific. Too many straps that fastened the wrong way. Made for a slower transition and I need all the free speed I can get.

I appreciate all the responses...I found a LBS that carries the Specialized and I'm going Saturday to get a pair. I'll give 'em a run over the weekend and let you know how they feel.
Thanks Again!

Oh, bike shoes...
Yeah the tri vents are easy to slip into while on the bike. I was 1st place overall in T1/T2 with them last event I did =)

Let us know how you liked them. I also use the trivents, and couldn't be happier. I also have an old pair of SIDI that I use on occasion, but the Trivents just seem to fit better.
