Urban Dictionary Word of the Day
Can't Post
I get this emailed to me. Enhancing my vocabulary
today:
Quote:
November 4: sport snob
someone who believes that their vast and ultimately unnecessary knowledge of sports makes them a better sports watcher. they will often ridicule, or speak condescendingly towards someone of lesser sports knowledge.
Louis: wow! that was a great touchdown pass...
Leo: thats what quarterbacks do...idiot...
Louis: don't be such a *%&#*^ sport snob
I just thought I'd share that...

I'm relieved to see that you didn't find it while browsing the Urban Dictionary yourself. Was afraid that we were about to see a very different character in your posts.

I have to look up a lot of words there to understand conversations sometimes! I'm kind of sheltered :-)

When I joined facebook (which is definitely the most shameful thing I've ever done) I had to bookmark the urban dictionary just to figure out what the hell people were posting on my page. I've considered myself relatively well-educated and well-read, but I'm like a blind man trying to find his way in the dark when reading people's ramblings on the interweb. If you thought that Americans had zero command of the English language prior to 2000 (and the most recent Bush presidency), then you probably won't want to be around in a decade or two.
These statements don't apply to postings on ST, since most of us are preoccupied with things like seat height, and finding new demographics that are worthy of ridicule.

I have a dilbert desk calendar, and the one from a couple days ago was classic. All Ratbert - "I want to debate on the internet, but I'm afraid I'm not smart enough" - "Maybe I'll just browse and see what they're saying" - "Ok...I'm in."

My favorite definition on that site is "taint". A cyclist told me his taint was killing him, and I had to look it up.

I signed up as a legitimate way to get into contact with some colleagues from grad school - all work related stuff. My use dropped off precipitously once every assbag that I've ever come into contact with decided that we would suddenly be chummy and get to know one another. People from 20+ years ago come crawling out of the woodwork with some dire urge to tell me what they just ate for dinner, or give irrelevant updates on the poor umpiring of the Yankees game.

I used to get their daily emails, but I stopped when "docking" was the word of the day. After that, I never wanted to know another urban dictionary word again.

Why would that be considered "Urban" ? Would not "Urban" be more like "We be chillen" ?

Wrong decade.
Your referring to the great ebonics scare of the 90's when we were more concerned with our children speaking 'like the rap music'.
Nowadays it's all about kids getting fat and sending sexually explict coded texts to one another.
