We lost Kansas today - Our little dog we picked up on the highway driving back from IM 70.3 KS passed away

Many of you know the story. Driving back from IM 70.3 KS last year, we found a little dog wandering the highway. Disoriented and malnourished, we took her home and made her part of our 4 dog pack. Here is the full story:

Well, this was the one year anniversary and, unfortunately, we had to put her down today. She was a wonderful dog who we loved with all our hearts. Try as we might, we could not put weight on the little girl, but, she was doing quite well until about 2 days ago. She started drinking excessively and stopped eating.
Today she could barely stand and collapsed a few times. We took her to the vet this afternoon. Among other things, she had kidney failure, was in a lot of pain, and was fading fast. It was an incredibly tough decision, but, we made the call to put her down.
Our hearts are very, very heavy today. Although we only had her for one year, she was a part of our beloved pack. The others can tell something is missing and will not leave our sides. We will miss the little girl...

Hey, my heart goes out to you guys. I'm a dog-lover myself, and dread when that day comes for my little dog. Hang in there!

Very sorry to hear this. I know how hard it is to lose a dog. You guys did something good and both you and Kansas were better for your kindness.
All the best,

Sorry to hear this. I think I like dogs more than people. Look at the good life that you gave her in the last year and keep the good memories.

I am so sorry to hear this. It hurts to lose one of your best friends! But you made the last year of her life happy and complete-you gave her a home filled with love and affection, far more than she had before you came into her life. It seems like she was angel who gave the same back to you.

Sorry to hear about your pup, but you are a good person for giving her a loving home, and a much better life than she would've had otherwise.

Oh no! This makes me very sad. Kansas was a very lucky dog to find you a year ago. I'm sorry you didn't have more time with her. She had a great story. My condolences.

Sorry to hear that. Take comfort in the fact that you made her last year a good one.

I'm so sorry. I really enjoyed reading your original post about her last year. I know that it's not much comfort now, but if you hadn't turned around to pick her up, she would have died afraid and alone. Instead, she had an extra year of comfort and affection, and was with people who loved her when she went.

Sorry for your loss. You did a great thing and made the last year of that pup's life with out doubt the best ever in its life.
Going to give Estee a hug for your pup.

Thanks to everyone for the responses and the PMs. She was a wonderful gift for us, even though we only got her for a year. I hope we brought her as much joy as she brought us.
The Pack is a bit lost tonight. They know something is "off," but do not seem to know what yet. They did notice the empty bed tonight.
Thanks again.

Sorry for the loss. Thanks for the pictures and update though.
We found 2 dogs yesterday, 1 was wandering the neighborhood and we found her owner. The second was running down the middle of a busy highway and we pulled over and another car did and they were like, oh that is our dog. . .well then keep it in the car or at home. I wonder about people sometimes.
Everyone keep up the good work. It is our job to take care of animals.
