When is SRAM Releasing new Red Aerolever (1090R2C)? Can't Post

I was wondering when SRAM plans to release the 1090 R2C? I can't find ant information on cost or availability. For those of you who haven't seen this is the arrow lever that you click to change gears and it returns to center.

Confirm June release date via our helpful SRAM outside sales rep, Richard Brink, who is in our store now.

I shutter to think of what the cost will be for a set. I'm guessing between $350-$450.

Yeah I'd love to know how much these critters are going to run. Even a ballpark would be fine.

I thought I saw somewhere that it would be around $350.00. No clue where that was but I distinctly remember it.

Not to you in particular Tom, but won't these only be beneficial (aero wise), if you have straight extensions? Anything other than extensions pointing straight out will result in a lever always sticking up into the wind. At first I wanted a pair too, but without the straight extensions, there will be no benefit, other than perhaps the ergo benefit having the lever in the same position all the time.

I'm pretty sure you can adjust their starting point so they are pointing straight ahead regardless of bar position.

That sir, would be cool. I was of the mind that the lever stuck straight out parallel to it's insertion, but that is just a guess. I had convinced myself I didn't need such a trinket, but.....

$350.00 you're right. I saw it last week in a bicycling mag at Borders. Not Bicycling magazine, maybe Velonews? It was their "buyer's guide" kinda black and green cover. I know it wasn't Bicycling because their buyers guide is white with a Look on the cover. Whatever publication, I almost peed my pants when I saw the R2C.

The primary benefit to these is not aerodynamic, it's ergonomic.

Tom (or anyone for that matter),
Will these work similar to STI levers, in that you can shift only one cog at a time? click, center, click, center, click, center....

Tom, are you aware whether the "return" point is like MVM suggests above, that is, selectable?
Thanks,

Wow. That seems like a pretty steep price. Do you think the price will come down if Shimano comes out with similar functionality, or will there be a "understood" premium between the brands for this technology?

So you are saying that the R2C levers are going to be $700? Who came up with that number? $350 is already enough - I can't imagine spending twice that amount on a bar shifter. As for the June release, is it going to be early June (i.e the end of May) or is this going to be more of a lazy July release?

No I think Kevin was referring to the Dura Ace 7900 STI Levers costing upwards of twice what the SRAM levers are reputed to cost.

Re: When is SRAM Releasing new Red Aerolever (1090R2C)? [vikingmd] [In reply to] Can't Post

I got to play with some R2C levers last night. We had a tech night in the store with SRAM reps and Michellie Jones and they brought along their handlebar setup with the R2C shifters hooked up to derailleurs. I must say, they are very cool. A very positive feeling shift, and it snaps right back to the center. You have to push or pull it around probably 20-30 degrees to get the shift. One feature I liked was markings on the shifter indicating which gear you are in since you know longer can tell from lever position. Should be a great seller, can't wait to install them on some bikes to test out for real.

Can I assume that with the R2C you can't grab a grip of gears at one time and burn across your cassette for steep hills?

are these the flat levers or the "bulbous" ones as seen on Lance Armstrong's TT sled at the Giro?
