Wrenches: Braze-On FD w/Adapter vs. Clamp-On FD
Can't Post
I'm building up a pretty basic road bike. I bought a braze-on FD before I bought the frame(105, if it matters). The frame accepts a clamp-on FD. So my options are:
1. Shell out $15 for an adapter.
2. Sell the FD I have now and pick up a clamp-on.
I really have no problem doing either, as far as finances go. I've had good luck getting good deals on most of my parts, so an extra $15 wouldn't break me. At the same time, I have a guy who would buy the FD from me if I don't want it, and FD's really aren't a huge expense(at least, compared to other components). So what I'm wondering is, from a performance/durability/overall quality standpoint, is it better to have a clamp-on, or a braze-on with an adapter. Common sense would tell me that putting a clamp-on derailleur on a frame that accepts clamp-ons is probably my best bet, but I don't really have any data or experience or logic to back that up. Will I have issues with an adapter?
Also, here's a picture of a furry animal.

i've never had an issue using an adapter with a braze-on fd. to tell you the truth, i never even thought about it making any difference...

There seems to be consensus on the issue. No dissenting voices?

Get the adapter. Fewer and fewer frames still have a round seat tube so the braze on FD will be compatible with more frames in the event you upgrade the frame or want to sell off the component later.

An adapter will work just fine. The only advantage to a clamp on is a very tiny weight savings versus using an adapter.
