Wrenching question
Can't Post
So I am learning as I go with the whole wrench thing. ST is an awesome resource for this as is Park Tools.
I am wondering about cranks and BB. I want to switch out the crank and BB on my Cervelo RS for a Shimano Ultegra level compact. (I will be putting the FSA on my project bike).
Do I understand correctly that the Shimano crank has a somewhat proprietary BB that I should buy? I intend on buying the new BB anyway, but want to understand better. Any resources that people can recommend.
I did a search on this issue but as you can imagine the word Shimano leads to a massive number of hits.
Thanks
Dave

The Shimano BB isn't proprietary as there are several companies that make BBs that are compatible. I would buy a Shimano BB though as the cup width is probably going to be different than the FSA one. FSA has something like 5 different cup widths for their various cranks. The BBs are pretty cheap and would save you time for looking at all the tech specs and measuring to see if they are compatible or not. You'll need another BB since you plan on using the other crank anyway.
