anybody have a BP Stealth??? Can't Post

I have a chance to grab a frameset for 500 bucks in my size (L). seems a bit strange though, does anybody here have one? Like it? hate it? seems like it could be a fun super aero project.

My buddy rides one and seems to love it. The only thing I know he has complained about it the difficulty of getting the seat angle very steep because it is built at 73 degrees. He has a forward bend seatpost, has the saddle slammed as far forward on the rails as it will go, and still nose rides to get up where he wants to be. If you ride super steep this may not be a good choice, but if you ride shallow it is certainly worth a look. I will see if I can get him to respond directly.

I have an old retired Martek frame which is the same thing, Markek is the company that made them.

I loved riding it and now wish I'd never retired it. I may recommission it at some point. It's really heavy but somehow rides "light" and was very comfortable.

Cousin Elwood has one. PM him and I'm sure he will give you his opinion.

I had a similar opportunity a couple of years ago when pretty poor and passed on it.

The geometry on those bikes is hard to figure out from numbers, the cabling looks like it could use improvements, and the one I was thinking about was in rough shape.

Its a tough call. There is no data on them.

I used to have one. It's super heavy, I mean really, it's a tank. It road real nice though, it was a fun project 500 bucks seems a little steep though.

Well, I think Steve Larsen rode one.

The Kestrel data suggests that the gap between the wheel and frame is a good thing.

The cable routing is a little funky though-----maybe you could fix that.

I'm the guy J-Hud mentioned has the Stealth. I don't like conformity and think 90% flat top double diamond bikes are fugly. I do like my Stealth and it is fast. Yep it's a little heavy (19.5). If you are going to do tri or tt you will want a forward seat post. The frame is a 15 year old design and it's too bad the current manufacturer has no plans to upgrade to a true tri geometry. I also added a reverse stem to get a 7+" drop. No integrated head set, again it's an old design, but it's not a Cervelo.

I have a pic on my profile.

Carbon Sports actually makes those frames I believe. Same company that makes Lightweight wheels.

Very close. It actually predates the CarbonSports Eclipse. The bike was originally called a "Tri Star 26" and built in the mid 90's. From what I have been able to glean from the internet and the shop that sponsored some California racers, the story goes... A guy designed it and had a German aerospace company build it. After the ban on beam bikes the German company retained the rights. They sold the bike for a short time via "Look", and finally sold the rights to CarbonSports. Best part is I got the frame off ebay for $167 bucks!

Re: anybody have a BP Stealth??? [IRONwolf] [In reply to] Can't Post

I've got a size medium and I really like it. I drew up the bike geometry in AutoCAD based on dimensions and the Medium (56) is identical to the P2K 55cm except for the crank being about 30mm further forward and 7mm further down. So I don't know why people say the geometry is strange...?!?!?!?

Anyway, I'm actually the guy on the splash page at www.bpstealth.com so you can see what it looks like with a Corima forward seatpost with the seat most of the way forward. I think I am using a 110mm -17deg stem. The balance and steering is nicely slow (not twitchy!) and it's very comfortable for long rides. With the setup in that pic and a Rocket helmet instead of the older Chrono it takes me about 160-165W to ride 20mph, with a rough CdA of 0.225ish. Not amazing but pretty darn good for never having been to a tunnel.

Cable routing does take some fiddling, especially if you rout them low like I did. If you get them too short it is tough to do U-turns, but this would happen on any bike with cable entry on the downtube area. The rear brake is a beast to initially install but once you get it right it works well. I get a lot of compliments on my bike, it's rare that I don't get someone go "wow" on almost every ride around here. Of course I'd like to think that's my studly body...but it's probably the bike!
