I can't think of a single one.

Most Pro's are on bikes not at retail shops either, so bias. This is worse than the UCI almost.
If we are talking "IM" specific, yes. I think Norman was the only man in the world with a Plasma 2 last year, actually not think, KNOW!

well they at least get prototypes before the general public even have a chance to buy them. Last year the plasma 2 and look 596 were 2 biggies. how about Electronic Dura Ace at kona last year?

Is safety the reason for banning wheelcovers?
Has there been any reported accidents due to wheelcovers?

If I'm not mistaken, wheel covers weren't allowed in time trials before 2009. The rule reads like the old cycling one.

You're mistaken...wheel covers have been allowed in USCF/USAC TTs for many years...

Do you know if this is specific to that race? I'm racing a 70.3 in North America and don't see anything about it in their rules but the section is tiny and incomprehensive.

Anyone else used a wheel cover in a 70.3 in North America or had any issues?

Huh? I'm pretty sure 1,000's of athletes have used a wheel cover in the various NA 70.3's.

float , hammer , and jog

I assumed as much but when I saw this thread I started wondering... that and I put in way too much milage on the bike this week and it's affecting my rational thought.

Cheers.

In 22 years of racing, I have seen only ONE incident with a wheel cover. During a race, the rear wheel cover came off and got tangled in the rear wheel and frame and it caused the rider to wreck. I ASSUME ( my apologies to Uma Thurman!) it was due to faulty installation by the athlete. Check with race mgt. to be sure.

Yeah, check with the race organizers.

Usually fairings are not allowed, but wheel covers have ALWAYS been an exception. The reasoning was that (back when disc wheels were $2k each) wheel covers helped level the playing field between those who could afford a disc and those who could not. People using covers aren't gaining an advantage.

Last note: The HED Jets have a non-structural carbon fairing permanently bonded to the rim. Hard to see how this is different than "permanently" attaching a wheelbuilder cover usning the screws and electrical tape.

This is new USAT rule or just race specific. I used my 2 wks ago in IMCDA & have used it a Hvineman & other races without a thought for the last couple of years. Am using it this year at HVineman.

I hope this gets clarified. Barb

Poked around a (very) little and found the reference that I thought I remembered. UCI rules effective 1/1/2007 prohibited disc covers according to this post by our own esteemed Gary Tingley on the Southern Cal TT website: http://www.socalttseries.com/...tid/102/Default.aspx

Perhaps the rule was reversed prior to implementation, I have no idea...I have enough self esteem issues already so I don't show up at stand alone TT's often. You guys are crazy fast. I'm "that guy" other riders feel sorry for. At least they say supportive things as they blow by me :)

I only raised this point as a possible source of the rule.

Yup...that "changeover" to UCI rules was postponed indefinitely.
