check out bike positions - also show your age and guess who Can't Post

Here are a few pics I found - check out forward seat positions. Not much changing really. These boys rode these bikes fast. Guess who - should be pretty easy. Pics are about 18 years ago

Yeah you guessed it - Reebok Worlds 1991 I think - If I recall Richard Wells won, Pigg second, Kearns 3rd and Tinley 4th. Race was at Kelso Conservation Area in Milton - put on by none other than Graham Fraser. Sign of big things to come for Graham.

Hey Mike...nice shots of Pigg and Tinley. Faris would love them!

Jackmott...I think you are correct. The guys back then actually had pretty good positions because the aerobars had zero stack height. The pads wrapped around the handle bar (just a piece of foam). Tubes were all narrow and vented helmets did not exist (or were just coming into existence).

Here's Wolfgang's aero position from Kona 1989 that I pulled off a youtube video

...ummm...

...just sayin' you know...

so I don't really need to run out and buy a P4?

but their runs sucked because they were on road bikes...everybody knows that.

well a P4 would be nice but you don't need a generic chinese carbon frame or an argon or a kuota

just get a steel one =)

You know Jack, I've said here that I'll purchase a TT bike when it will allow me to play on the National stage - not before I need the extra minutes (about which I no longer argue, hmmm...).

Nonetheless, being the stubborn grouch I am, the thought of a steel frame really tugs at me.

Or a Wilier Chrono, or another Colnago.

One of the guys here was selling his rather well known P2K...that would be another cool one to have. But until I'm riding as fast as my road machine will let me, I'll keep working on my legs.

300' of garlic planted and mulched in since 6:30 this AM - I do NOT want to go ride now, perhaps I'll eat too much and write snotty things here in the forum.

Heh, some of us have enough body hair that riding topless doubles our aero profile. And I just can't seem to pull the trigger on the full body shave.

Once you arrive at the race, deposit your excuses in the same location as last night's pasta.

Good point, that would include myself (reminds me that I used to have fewer body hair when I raced topless...). Would dimples compensate for the extra drag? ;-)

I'm rocking a STEEL round tube bike but its STILL a Cervelo!!!

The Cervelo Prodigy and Renaissance steel frames are said to be some of the nicest steel frames ever made. They are a bit of a collectors item these days.

No. Let's not.

I'll be honest with you, I did for years, and they were uncomfortable on the bike. Why did we do it back then? - we had no clue, like a lot of the stuff we did from that time period. Strange though that the performances of those days, still stand the test of time.

There was a thread on this very topic on the Active.com forum. While many of the arguments centered around fashion, I don't understand why you'd race in a Speedo when there are padded tri-shorts available. The Speedos were so dang-blasted uncomfortable, and in 2002 when I returned to the sport after a seven-year break, I was thrilled to have my first pair of DeSoto Tri Shorts. You can swim in them AND they have a pad! Thrill!

I used to have those same "Lake" bike shoes. In fact, I think I rode the hell out of a couple of pairs of them.

I personally never had a problem riding 40k in a Speedo. It did show my quads much better than tri-shorts. Ha!
Now, I don't think anyone wants to see my old ass in a Speedo with funky triathlete tan lines (read fish belly white upper legs, tan lower legs)!

Boy, the first tri suits were wonderful after speedos.

Prior to racing speedos, we used to change kit out in the open in transition.

No wetsuits either...

I feel like a grouchy old fark today. Hope Bob C. is riding for me today...cuz I ain't.

Just ask Zipp, it all depends on WHERE the dimples are located. And depending on that answer, it might depend on whether you have a Speedo on or not ;)
