headlamp for running Can't Post

thoughts on the best headlamp under $60 over $30. i saw the Black Diamond Icon Headlamp for around $60. is there a big difference in running with different brands? I will be running no more then an hour to hour and half with one. Looking for rechargble batteris, light and bright.
thanks.

The Petzl Myo XP can be found on ebay somewhat regularly for under $60. It is an outstanding headlamp (80 lumens) for night running. Its big brother the RXP is even better, but even on ebay out of your stated price range. I run with a group with a variety of lighting and frankly, the lesser lamps are not worth the $, IMO. They project insufficient light to create a three dimensional environment, and the perspective that gives you on the trail floor makes it very hard to properly discern rocks and roots and such type debris. That said, an inexpensive headlamp coupled with a hand held flashlight does provide a nice field of depth perception, and is a good safety backup in case of primary light failure.

no, but thanks for asking. I never search, I prefer to waste your time and make you do all the work. Don't be a jerk and thanks for the link :-)

How about something super cheap that puts out 130 lumens? http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15689

I can't find it, but they sell some variation of the P7 light with a headband for head use...900 lumens baby! It's more than a car headlight. Just above your $60 limit though.

Having done a fair amount of research on lighting issues, I would be _really_ suspect of that lumen rating on the light mentioned above. Not all lumen measurements are created equally.

I cut a couple of holes in a run visor and have been using a Blackburn Flea. It is rechargeable, weighs less than 20 grams, puts out around 40 lumens, and is $30. I just cut two slots and ran the little velcro stap it comes with through them. So far it has worked well, and a couple of people I run with have asked me to make them one.

I use it for running on the road before daylight mainly, and pair it with another red Flea flasher on the back. That is still less than 40 grams on my visor, which I don't notice at all. I have used it some for trails and it is bright enough for me, but I know some people want something REALLY bright.

I am getting around 2 hours of run time on the brightest setting for the front light, I recharge the rear flasher once a week.

I run at night on a regular basis and use this: http://www.walmart.com/...?product_id=10233058. Cheap enough to replace if it breaks and not really worry about it. Plenty bright when matched with a cheap plastic handheld flashlight. The 50hours they claim is also legit.

I use a Blackburn Flea mounted on the brim of a hat. I've never liked having a headlamp strapped to my head. I can barely tell this is up there.

You are wise. The 900 rated light for instance is said to really put out about 700 lumens.
Nonetheless, the one rated for 130 likely puts out over 90 lumens and would be wonderfully effective for night running.
