long run - rest
Can't Post
Quick Info:
Age - 47
weight - 239 (was 267 15 weeks ago)
goal - half marathon in 6 weeks
concern - injury
current weekly miles - 20
current long run - 8
My long runs are on Sunday. I currently run 3 other days. Unless it rains or something comes up, these runs are all on consecutive days.
I know I am probably overthinking this. But now that the long runs are starting to get alot longer, I am wondering if I should be taking an extra day for recovery before running again. Felt great on my 7 mile run last sunday. Finished strong and I was not trashed. But woke up yesterday pretty sore in my calfs and the legs just kind of felt dead. Today is better but still feeling the effects of Sunday.
For the last 15 weeks I have been doing my runs on T-W-TH. I then cross train on Fri, rest on saturday and then do the long run on Sunday followed by a day of stretching on Monday.
However, I am thinking that perhaps I should be doing the shorter runs on W-TH-F, rest on saturday, then do the long run on Sunday, followed by a day of stretching on Monday and cross training on Tuesday.
Put another way, is it better to take 2 days off of running before a long run, then recover for one day. Or is it better to take 1 day off before your long run, then use 2 day to recover before running again.
Like I said, at my size, my primary concern is to avoid injury so I can continue to run. I figure as long as I can continue to run without an injury, my size will come down and make things easier.

I'm so far from an authority on this that I hesitate to even answer, but....
...for a 4-run week my personal experience tells me that you would be better off running Mon / Tues / Thurs / Sat (for long run). This way you are only running two consecutive days v three.
Btw, congrats on the weight loss & commitment to get in shape.
