powertap question Can't Post

Lets say I am running a wired powertap comp setup with a training wheel. If I were to purchase a used race wheel that came with a wireless higher model powertap hub, would this hub still work with a wired cpu. Also, what is a coded heart rate monitor. Will a garmin 305 watch heart rate monitor work with the powertap comp wired setup. Thanks

As far as I know, a wired unit will not work with a wireless. Depending on the year of your PT computer, there might be a 5 option in your set up menu. If you have this, you should be able to use other HR straps with it once the computer detects the new code of the new strap. As others have mentioned, use your training wheel, buy a cover for it from wheelbuilder.com for $100 and get an aero front wheel for your races (if you do not have money to blow).

Neither option will work. All you need to do is just roll/twist the wired harness under your stem and mount the wireless harness on top and use the wireless computer.

f.k.a - Record9, Record9ti Record10, Record10ti, Record10Carbon, but not SuperRecord11 as there are no bar ends.

My bad, I did not read Wired CPU. Why does the Wireless wheel not have a CPU? You can order a Wireless CPU and then synch it to the hub.

Yes, a garmin HRM from a 305 will work with PT. You need to set it up though in HR menu. Forget where in there it is.

The PT HR strap will not work with the 305, however.

I ride with the Garmin HR strap, and a PT and 305.

I don't think it would from my knowledge as they pick up signals differently. However, I would call Saris / PT cus they will know right away.

thanks for the reply. I asked because I recently bought a PT comp brand new (wired). Eventually I want to get a set of Zipps with PT for racing. I was trying to figure out a way to just throw on the zip and have it pick up with my current PT setup. It would have been easier to get a wireless from the beginning, but funds were low. Not sure about a wheel cover, its on a road bike.

Disc covers from wheel builders are good. I had them build one for my Hed Jet. Also, you could ask them if they can put a wired PT on a wheel. They do builds for legit prices (as in expensive, but still 100 - 200 cheaper than most places). Either way it would be nice to race with PT cus then you know better what to do in workouts. When using them just in workouts it is still a little bit of a guessing game.

The wireless CPU will fit on the same mount as the wired CPU. There is not need to change the mount. Just swap the CPUs.

Actually it will work. It needs to be the coded Powertap strap, and you need set the Garmin to rescan for the new strap and it will learn the new code.
