If you go to the race website and click on the registration link, you can see how many people have signed up - 210 participants so far as of this morning. I believe they take 400 or 500 people but not exactly sure. Registration opened last week so you can get a rough idea as to when it will sell out.

There are currently 211 people signed up.

Think there is a limit of 500

Hard.

You know how you feel at around mile 17 of the Ironman Marathon. Imagine feeling like that as you run into the water to do a half ironman.

And it's a hard 1/2 IM, right? Sick as it sounds, I find myself actually considering it.

Hey....I've done this and am going back this year with my training partner......

Hard???? hmmm HELL YES! combine that with the back to back races and finish with a tough 1/2 (makes Innsbrook seem easy).

To give you an idea.....I'm a 5:15-5:20 1/2 type guy and I did 6:54 in 08!

But you would love it!!

Hope to see you there!

Anyone use it as training for Lake Placid?

My buddy is doing as a prep for Lake Placid.

Honestly, i think the whole weekend looks harder than an IM....maybe a lot harder. I guess I'll find out!!

But, strangely I am looking forward to it. HA HA.

Is this Triple-T the one in Ohio http://www.americantriple-t.com/ohio/raceinfo.html? That event sounds sick, yet intriguing. Are there other sites across the counrty that offer this format?

I'm doing both. Trying to be as cautious as possible though at Triple T as I've also heard it is harder than IMLP.

I am, along with a few others from my area doing IMLP.
Did TTT 2 years ago, got sick/stomach thing after the 1st oly saturday. Hard as hell race, but I want to go back and put in a better showing of what I am capable of. Still going to be just a training weekend though.

Do you know if it's considered harder than LP because you are racing for 3 days, or is the course actually a lot harder?

Anyone else forming a Coed team? I think I've convinced my fiance to race with me- that way, we can actually race WITH each other- I think it's going to be great! When you race as a team, do you have to start and finish each discipline together?

RACING an IM is still harder than the TripleT in my opinion (done it 3 times). It is a great prep for IMLP and will make the hills in Lake Placid seem easy. A nice mental benefit for sure.

No question, the course(s) at the TTT are far harder than any IM. Most aren't "racing" the TTT either (just like many of the walkers at an IM) ;)

Re: when will Triple T sell out? [alaina1] [In reply to] Can't Post

It would be great training for LP

What is it, 8 weeks before?
You take a week or so easy then blast yourself for the weekend and then be unable to complete your IM training plan for another week.

So you only lose two of the most important weeks of training in your run up to an event you spent $550 on. That would be the perfect thing for your IMLP training. :P

Could you do it? Yes, of course you could, Now the question is: Will it maximize you LP training or hinder it?

Thanks! I'm glad to hear the hills are hard- that's my biggest concern, coming from MI. I will be 'racing' IMLP, even though it will be my first IM. I will do everything in my mental power to NOT race TTT :)

BTW- how long did it take to recover from TTT?

Re: when will Triple T sell out? [alaina1] [In reply to] Can't Post

My wife and I are racing as a co-ed team. My understanding is that the first 2 races your times are added together and for the 3rd and 4th race the time of the second person on the team is used so it behooves you to help out your partner if you are faster. For the last two races we will be working together to get our team across the line as quickly as possible.
Can't wait for this race! Although I should start training again soon, I haven't done much since Vineman in August ;-)

Re: when will Triple T sell out? [gleveq] [In reply to] Can't Post

It's a tough event; my casual observation was few were actually racing it last year but rather using it as a very tough training weekend.

Go to the results and look at the bike splits for Sunday's half....they are slow if you compare them to SORT, for example. But that's not because it's a weak field....there are plenty of strong riders there but you're pretty waxed on Sunday and you have already seen (twice in the previous day's races) the very difficult run you have ahead of you. Plus, and this will be music to this forum's ears, there is NO drafting, hell I rode most of it completely alone, and there are both rollers and long steady hills. The riding is absolutely gorgeous and very difficult.

This is a unique and superb event. It's prob in my Top 5 most fun events and I've done plenty of racing.

That IS the question I'm asking. Thanks for making it more explicit. If I am not racing TTT, but using it as training, how much more recovery is needed than a really hard build week for IM? If the week following TTT is set as recovery anyways, than I may not be hindering LP. I totally see the risk, because I am focused on LP- but I also need to race more and the mental training of TTT seems invaluable.

Jaret- how long did you take to recover?

Re: when will Triple T sell out? [alaina1] [In reply to] Can't Post

Alaina1; I'm from A2 as well and the only way I could think of to train for TTT last year was to attach the Burley to my bike, add a cinder block, and go over to Barton Hills. That made for some tough hill repeats and lots of very odd looks from other riders. But I was very glad I prepped that way because the hills down there at TTT are much, much harder than anything we can find locally.

It's a great event. Have fun.

2 weeks and I've done it 4 times now.

By the time I get to the AA Triathlon I'm getting my legs back.

Haha! I love it. You know what, I'll attach my 50lb aussie to the back of my bike instead- she would love it!

Do you ever go up to Petoskey to ride? I found that area to be pretty hilly, and plan to head up there when the snow melts to train.

Just saw you did Breakwater- great event! How do the hills of TTT compare to that course? I did the quarterman, but my man did the half- tough course!

Lots of hills up there, for sure. Except it's still about 20 degrees in May before TTT. Brrrr. Go south instead.

I know Jaret makes a trip down to the TTT race site in April for a good training weekend. That's a good idea but it's sure a long trip.

You just need to resign yourself (and your butt) to some long indoor trainer sessions in Feb/March. We need to start a group.....
