I'm old enough to remember when the best time trial specific bikes came with a 700c rear and 26"/650c front.

They became popular with Francesco Moser setting the hour record and winning Giro d'Italia in 1984, until UCI banned them ~20 years ago. Not the best choice for triathlon possibly, as you have to carry spares for 2 different sizes. In the age fo steel/aluminum frames, dual 650c was probably the best choice

A 700c tube could be used in a 650c wheel, with some care and creative folding. It was possible though harder to do the same with a 24” wheel.

But then, all we used were tubulars, so spares were problematic

Hi Chris,
I am about to order an xs Canyon speed max but the 650 wheel thing has really been freaking me out......I am 5ft 5 inches 165 cm and Canyon insists I am extra small. So how do you like your xs Canyon ? does it feel small? and how does it handle - I think a positive review would sway me over the never being able to buy new wheels.
What would you say are the positives and negatives of your bike ?
If you were buying a new bike again - would you get this one?
Really appreciate your opinion - Kind regards,
Ben

Movistar's Einer Rubio is more or less your size, and, for time trial stages, rides the 700c bike:
