Goals for the coming week
7/7 healthy coping
Stick to easing back into running
Journal daily
Hip and shoulder strengthening daily
One set of 5 x 100 with some of them under the 1:12/100 I am trying not to plateau at
1. DONE!!! I have 21 days in a row of healthy coping and am very proud and very pleased
2. I made smart choices and wound up in pain, so I made the smart choice of not running any more in the week
3. Done
4. Done as it made sense
5. I managed this twice before my shoulder started to hurt
6. Unanticipated physical win - I was able to donate blood on Saturday! My iron is always iffy but it goes up when I've had a couple months of not running + focusing on nutrition, so the iron level was not even borderline, and I could donate.
I made intelligent choices this week to listen to my body when it started acting up. I would just like the smart healthy choices to pay off and let me get back to doing what I want to do :-(
M - 3200 free, 500 kick, 1.84 mi jog as part of jog walk
T - 3200 free, 800 kick
W - 2 mi jog as part of jog/walk
T - 2250 free, 1400 kick
F - 3200 kick
S - 3200 kick
S - 600 free, 1700 kick
The kick here is sidestroke kick
-the other thing I did a good job with as my week went to hell in a handbasket and my mood really fell was keeping myself engaged in other things that bring me some joy and good feelings (even if not as good as training) like being productive at work, doing stuff w family, reading, and hobbies (current is I have 8 taps in maple trees in backyard to make syrup).
- I also reached out for help in real time in terms of trying to make drs appts and stuff, which I realize sounds like "duh" but although MDs can help sometimes they have things you dont' want to hear so this is also an emotionally difficult thing
goals this week -
7/7 healthy coping skills
am wondering if hamstring is getting irritated from the sidestroke kick, so goal this week is to do more resting
journal every day
hip and shoulder strength as it makes sense
remind self my body has a lot going for it - I can walk. I am not in a wheelchair, sling, or crutches.
To catch everyone up, the hamstring thing I was an idiot with run mileage in late Dec/ early Jan, but the shoulder thing I did everything the PT said post surgery and this is just some rotator cuff tendonitis because the collective swim + strength load was too much. Yes it is an overuse injury but I was DOING WHAT I WAS TOLD I COULD DO which is very different from me making poor choices on my own.
you're likely in for a lot of "TC daily check ins" this week bc it helps me.
maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine
If you're injured and need some sympathy, PM me and I'm very happy to write back.
