the hubs are the bike hub store's own in house brand.

I'm likely to build my race wheels this winter. I've built many training wheels and MTB wheels (pre disc).

question - are these training wheels for you? and if yes, can you give me pro's/con's to not going cross 1 or 2 up front (instead of radial).

Nice job - BTW...

I saw this on a white board in a window box at my daughters middle school...

.
i built the wheels to replace a 60mm wheel set i had
which were built on nova tec hubs.
the nova tec hubs looked and worked great but made noises and had play in them
the 60mm wheels made bike look awesome but bike acted funny on windy days
or when trucks and motor homes pass by at speeds bike would wobble for a second .

As I understand it there is no reason to go cross because there is no drive/brake forces coming from the hub. You cross the spokes so that they pull in the direction of the force. A radial spoke will largely pull sideways (at the hub) to the drive/brake forces of a hub.

the last bike hub store wheel set i built.
i used their kinlin aluminum rim.

the wheel set turned out pretty light for what it cost.

but sprinting or standing up on hills i can feel the radial laced front aluminum kinlin rim flex.

using the 38mm carbon hoop. laced radial... i get no flex.

i am 150 lbs...

Who's carbon rims are you using?

All of my cx race wheels are built up around major toms and I somewhat regret not gambling with some chinese carbon tubs :-/

a random 240.00 a set shipped off ebay
the carbon rim ads all seemed to be around same quoted weights
with a typical give or take + or - weight variance value of 50 - 80 grams.
even the high dollar hoops .

so i just picked a set and ordered them.
nothing fancy.

i have only ridden the wheels a few times.

and so far i like them and how they look.
