What movies would you like to see remade?
They really nailed it with Dune. With the combination of a bigger budget and better special effects (as well as good acting, writing, directing) they were able to take a kinda bad 80's movie and nail it

Got me thinking, what movies would you like to see remade?

Really, Dune?? I lost a couple hours of my life on that movie that I will never get back. Wonder around the desert, then, wonder around the desert a little more, the end. It was horrible.

At least spell your main gripe correctly, sheesh.

Definitely thought it was better than the original. I thought part 1 dragged a bit, but it left me wanting to see part 2. Waiting until it comes out on streaming.

Come up with new ideas and characters instead of drafting off the effort of previous creators.

Also a rumor of a JJ Abrams remake of Krull. Which was arguably much worse than the original Dune.

Dunkirk, Schindler's List, The Pianist, and Enemy at the Gates are all rebooting in 2025. I hope to read your reviews for all of them.

In Time. Interesting concept and Timberlake wasn’t terrible, but the movie fell kind of flat for me.

I’m usually anti-remake, but I think the Soderbergh version of Oceans 11 was much better than the original.

I look forward to a reboot of Enemy at the Gates. The Russian sniper with the heavy English accent was hard to overcome. I enjoyed the movie because I love those old sniper rifles. I've owned a Mosin 91/30, just not the sweet scoped sniper.

Those all seems like really odd choices, wasn't Dunkirk only out a few years ago?

I'd like to see them remake movies that had a good concept but could have had better execution.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief comes to mine.
I really enjoyed the books, but man, the movie was terrible.

I also thought Passengers had an interesting premise, but somehow the movie fell flat.

I am mostly in agreement with slowguy. I'd much prefer new material. However, it also seems fun to respond to the asked question.

I don't think rebooting a classic movie, a cult classic, anything from a 'top ten' director or top 'A-list' actor is a wise idea. It's unlikely to be done any better than this first time. A little surprised Guy Ritchie would try and reboot a Kubrick.

I am thinking a reboot candidate is a decent movie from the past that just can't stand the test of time. A movie I enjoyed, but I know my kids would not.

One that comes to mind is 'The Big Chill'. Reboot with a modern ensemble cast and current awesome soundtrack. It's likely I would not like the movie, but a younger generation may.

I don't think Guy Ritchie (or anyone) doing a new version of A Clockwork Orange would be trying to redo Kubrick, but taking a newer look at the novel, instead

I wouldn't particularly call any new release of a movie based on Frankenstein, Dracula, Pride & Prejudice, or Emma a "reboot"

YMMV

I think we need to stop remaking good movies, and instead remain crappy movies that should have been good.

My vote goes to Star Wars episodes 1, 2, 3, 8, & 9.

Star Wars came to my mind. I think some small changes could make the sequels pretty good. The book version for Revenge of the Sith was really good. Much better than the movie. With all the good EU novels (like the Thrawn trilogy) they could have made the stories so much better.

As for other ones that come to mind. I think the ideas behind Waterworld and Stargate were good…but the execution less so.

X 2, although I wouldn't mind a Matrix prequel, like about the era AI begins to take over. Or even something not even related to the Matrix, but around the time that we lose control of AI (or the machines). Maybe we already have? The Terminator movies touched on that theme too, but perhaps were a little too far ahead. Something more to do with internet and device addiction, algorythm related and then shit hits the fan. Would be like Space Odyssey 2001, but on Earth and no one really knowing who was in control. Just total chaos.

I would like to see a sequel to Fight Club though. Perhaps where Norton's character has a mid-life crisis and Tyler Durden enters the picture again. I'm aware of Palahniuk continuing the series in comic book form, but still.

Koyaanisqatsi could be remade too, but it would be an entirely different movie. Doesn't count I guess. Truman Show could be better done I think. Something Wild.

This. I saw a list of upcoming new releases and most of them were "re-imaginings" aka our writers aren't creative so we're rehashing old movies.

The original Star Wars or god father part 2.

I would just love to see a collective amount of people lose their minds over something they can just skip.

I thought Society of the Snow was good. But nowhere near as good as it could have been. Alive was way better. Society didn't do anything new. Alive covered some of after the rescue. I think doing more of what happened after would have been interesting. I think a sequel could be done.

If you haven’t seen it, The Animatrix dvd has some interesting shorts; one of which tells the story of the events leading to the creation of the Matrix.

You could approach answering this question a couple diff ways. I see some folks responding on remaking movies that were good, even iconic in their original version. And I even mean iconic for being "bad/campy"..ie Roadhouse, PointBreak, etc... Remake 3 Amigos? no way.

Remaking A Clockwork Orange just seems like a travesty. Kubrick's version was brilliant.

What I think qualifies as a remake candidate is really a "do-over", especially movies that were based on great source material that absolutely butchered the job of turning it into visual media.

Somewhat recent attempts to turn great books and source material into TV material: Wheel of Time, Shannara, Foundation are good examples. All were flops (I didn't watch Foundation, only was told it sucked).

1000% agree. My wife and I constantly say Hollywood is out of ideas so they just make a new Marvel movie or the 30th Batman.

There are a ton of great books out there that could be made into movies. I read Boys in the Boat probably 7 years ago and now it's a movie. A good one at that.

There is an endless supply of great books that could be turned into movie or TV content. Unfortunately they need rop talent to convert them into screenplays, and therin lies the problem.

Remakes are cheap. Screenplays already done, mostly. Just rinse and repeat with just a low effort re write.

The Backyard Starship series by JN Chaney would make a fantastic series on par with the Expanse given the right screenplay. Great concept, character building, and story arcs over 18 books so far.

I would love to see a remake of the Black Hole. It was a Disney movie that came out in 1979 trying to capture some of the Star Wars fever. It was a great concept, but suffered from really bad special effects even for its time. I think they could take the story further and explore what happens once the ship passes through the black hole.

Looks like Seth Macfarlane is doing a remake/reboot of "The Naked Gun" with Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr. I can see it. Although got to wonder if they are going to address the issue with the previous "Nordberg."

Other one I was thinking about was "Real Genius." Great movie, perfect cast, completely underappreciated, . . . and very much of its time. Could even try and bring back Val Kilmer.
